LB Airport Evacuated, 'Suspicious' Package Found
July 26, 2007, 10:21 AM PDT

A suspicious piece of luggage prompted the evacuation of several hundred people from the Long Beach Airport terminal Thursday and delayed inbound flights, authorities said.

The baggage was discovered by federal Transportation Security Administration workers at about 9:30 a.m., city police spokeswoman Kathy Parsons said.

Firefighters, police and a bomb squad were called to the airport, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Televised news reports showed people streaming from the airport's terminal into the parking lot.

"Inbound flights are landing but are being held out on the tarmac. Outbound flights have been delayed or canceled," airport spokeswoman Maricela de Rivera said.

Well, how many flights are we talking about? Long Beach is a pathetically slow commercial airport. Hope nothing serious happens.

I doubt it is anything serious but it is better to be safe than sorry. I was flying out of Modesto last Novemeber when they evacuated the termainal due to a bomb threat. It's a bitch but I'm sure things will be back to business soon. Here is a video I found from an airport spokesperson and a talking-head from MSNBC:

Now they are saying that it was a hand-held game. Don't these screeners have kids or have a remote idea of what a video game looks like?

You wonder some times on how much training these guys get before they are let loose on a screening machine.

A rushed quick breifing, and they are on there own by the sound of it, i agree on what Buzz100ca said, surely anyone can see what a game machine looks like, either that, the baggage is going through to fast for the eyes to see, still a lot of work needs to be done in the way of training these guys properly at all airports in all countries.
