Can anyone help me with a somewhat urgent problem.
I need to bring a friend from their home in Niamey NIM (Niger) to my home in Hong Hong HKG at an affordable price. The agents seem totally lost and incapable of suggesting anything at a cost below US$6900 (return).
What is the most economical way to fly from Niamey to Hong Kong?
I need to solve this problem fairly urgently. Any ideas?

No matter what, it's always expensive to fly into/out of Niamey from outside of Africa (and from inside of Africa usually too). One of my best friends is actually on a plane from PHL to CDG as I type this on her way to live in Niger for 3 years or so, and the price was incredible! And that was with an advanced purchase.
All that being said, my guess (incorrect or not) is that AF will be the most expensive. I would say go through Tripoli as ENU mentions, then hook up with EK. Also, will you not need a visa to get into Niger? And factor any transit visa possibilities into the final cost as well!

Try point-afrique, www.point-afrique.com, a charter company primarily geared towards European budget tourists and budget travellers in West-Africa. They do serve NIM, but maybe not year round. Their fares are cheap, but the schedules are not very reliable, change a lot and are prone to frequent delays. That said it is a cheap option to get you out of Niger to France and book a more reasonable fare to Hong Kong.
Also consider driving to Ouagadougou, Cotonou or Kano (KLM offers roundtrips to HKG from Kano for USD 1350). All within a day drive from Niamey, fares are generally much cheaper from there, but obviously you have to spend some time on the road.

A couple of options.
If you take Afriquiyah to Cairo, you can probably get great fares on Egyptair.
Or, it might be simpler to get a flight to almost anywhere in West Africa (Bamako, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, Lagos, Lome) and then take Ethiopian or Kenyan to Hong Kong. I would book the trip within Africa with a local agent, and then book the Bamako (or wherever) to Hong Kong flight online with their websites.
