Small Plane Crash On Beach; At Brad Pitt's Home?

The small Cessna 172 took off from Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), CA and was flying around with a pilot and one passenger. On approach to Runway 7, the pilot reported engine problems and went down on the beach. The pilot had minor injuries and is at the hospital, the passenger went home okay.

The crash site is on a private property, so there is no pictures or news crews at the scene. Possible site? Brad Pitt's beach home (per the local news).

I will update soon (as the crash site is 10 minutes from me).

Beaches are public property. It's just getting to them that can be the issue...

The ocean is the public part...the actual beach (land part) can be owned...right?

Brad Pitt will certainly be in the pits to hear about this!  laughing  ...not.

Always the fun part. One part of the shore here has a 15 foot boulder wall separating the beach from the road. The wall is private property. Crossing is always under the mentality of "it isn't illegal until you get caught."  Wink

Here is [somewhat] of a link to a story... this news site has nothing on Brad Pitt, but at least I have proof that a plane did crash!

Also, the link says that there is no word on where the flight originated. I understand it took-off from SBA as well.

It looks doubtful that it landed on Pitts property (but did land nearby) but it does seem the pilot has more than minor injuries. It seems he might have back/spinal problems which seems bad. My thoughts go out to our fellow aviation enthusiast.

The 172 went down just before 2000 PST on Aug 1.

I could be wrong but I always thought the property line stopped at the point where the ocean reaches as highest high tide.

Thats sounds right.

This article actually says that the plane IS (unconfirmed) on Brad Pitt's Beach Home property...but the picture of it is in the water...so wouldn't that mean the plane is on public property.

Correct

No. The beach up until the dune or the highest seasonal tide is public (as some beaches have no dunes). You will see signs at various beaches telling you where this line is.
