This rumour seems to do the rounds every few months, but this time seems to come from a fairly credible source.
bmi are apparently set to end their Durham Tees Valley (Teesside) to London Heathrow route from the end of Winter 2007/8 timetable.
The source is an employee at Aviance, their handlers at MME.
This will be a shame. It is bmi's oldest route. But with their long haul expansion at LHR they seem to need the slots.
Does anyone think that Ryanair or FlyGlobespan would start a London route from MME with bmi gone? The rule was that no other airline was allowed to start a jet route to London whilst bmi operated here.

Quoting UAL777UK (Reply 2): erhaps they are just going to reduce frequency and that slots are needed for other routes
I worked for BMI many years ago at MME and in those days we had 5 flights a day to LHR
I think they are already down to 3 a day,(correct me if I'm wrong) so they cant really reduce much further
AAAh those were the days, Tees-side

Its not long until BA are getting 51 slots of bmi as part of the BMed deal. When this happens, sadly I think MME could get axed

No. FR have recently axed STN-BLK, and there has been a trend recently for domestic frequencies to be cut (Easyjet being a very good example this winter). Plus FR have a major disagreement with STN at the moment, so something would have to be axed at STN to allow STN-MME, or something at LTN axed to allow LTN-MME
As for GSM, all their domestic routes (STN-GLA/EDI, EDI-BOH), except from MME-JER, have failed

Yes BMI are going to have to start cutting back on some routes to accomadate the former BMED services once BA take those slots in late 2008 / 2009 and also so they can start moving slots around for the planned transatlantic flights.
