Hi All,

I was returning from Sanford airport in Florida back to Manchester last month, whilst waiting to board my flight i watched a Thomson Fly 767 sluggishly and quietly go down the runway and then ascend very slowly at about 15 degree angle (i'm making that judgement off 30 to 50 degrees being about normal??)

Then when on my flight it was again very slow and not alot of power and ascending in very much the same way, scared me actually.

Has this anything to do the air temperature or noise restrictions?

It was quite far removed from belting down the runway at MAN hoping to god the front wheel doesn't wobble  Wink

No, not even close. 15 degrees itself is a relatively steep takeoff angle, and id say 18 is about tops for standard procedures. I know this can sometimes trick the eye.

wow lol,

definatley trick of the eye  Smile

Ok, to understand the climb i'm trying to describe, let's just say (as an example) that there was a row of 50 houses at the end of the runway.
it would have gone through just above the door of the first 10 then the top windows for the next 20 and taken the roof off with the landing gear on the rest.

i.e it travelled a mile in distance and gained only 300 ft in altitude (obviously this is just the way it seemed)
plus there was no real power in the engines, didn't sound like it and certainly didn't feel like it.

When I took off from SFB on a Globespan/Neos plane, the actual takeoff was normal. But the climb was very slow. I have not got a SID for SFB, but we hung pretty low for about 5 mins before climbing to the cruise. I also think the runway in SFB is a fair size, so depending on the company perhaps a reduced thrust takeoff would have been used. As there are quite a few 727s sill active in SFB right now, I am not too sure if there are very strict noise abatement procedures for SFB Smile

9L/27R is 9600' long. Density altitude may have been high. May have been doing SFB1 departure, and only given 2000' for an initial altitude.

I've flown out of MCO, it may've seemed that way because the departure paths conflict.

You think that was a slow climb, on my flying lesson today, i was gunning the engine with me and my instructor, we got a 100fpm (yes... that is one hundred). It wasn't even warm outside. Tomahawks suck.
