12.500 employees of TK will vote before thursday afternoon to go on strike or not. It seems a wage problem. Union and management can't close a deal.
This will be a disaster in the middle of the holiday season with no additional capacity around.

ANKARA - Zo’n 12.500 werknemers van Turkish Airlines stemmen deze week of ze gaan staken. Volgens de Turkse krant Hürriyet wordt donderdagmiddag (9 augustus) duidelijk of de werknemers van Turkish Airlines het werk neerleggen. De luchtvaartmaatschappij en vakbond Hava-Is zijn het nog niet eens geworden over een nieuwe cao.
De werknemers van Turkish zijn met name ontevreden over hun salaris. De staking zou voor Turkish Airlines op een uiterst ongelegen moment komen nu de vakantiepiek in volle gang is.

Will this flight be affected if they go out in strike.

Its still not clear if the union will really call the strike. This weeks vote is more of a strike authorization, howevver things are indeed coming down to the wire.

First of all, if the vote goes for "no", then the union cannot go to strike, and a final agreement will be decided by a panel of judges within 15 days.
If the vote goes for "yes", then the union reserves the right to go on strike, that still does not mean a strike will actually take place.
It's not primarily a wage dispute, especially for flight attendants and pilots. There are a whole lot of complicated stuff, but layover rest times, number of attendants assigned to flights, policy on last minute changes on the schedule are all on the table.

TK is the best airline in terms of the work rules, pay, etc. in Turkey. Other 'compadres' in other airlines are much worse compared to TK. Yet again, i have friends that fly the brutal 5 on 2off type schedules.
TK cabin and flight crew need better rules than what they have today.. I just hope that other airlines will follow the suit, but management creates a very hostile environement when you try to bring union on board. Those who are familiar with will remember the experience of a pilot in SunExpress ; things were not that sunny for him after all..
PS: I am glaf that i am flying SEA-AMS-IST this time though

An Important Notice from Turkish Airlines

Because of the media attention given to the strike and lockout notifications exchanged between the union and Turkish Airlines, the need has arisen to inform our valued customers of the following:
The negotiations between Turkish Airlines management and the Hava-Is Union management have, as yet, been unsuccessful in reaching a new agreement. In accordance with labor law, the union gave a strike notice to Turkish Airlines on July 20, 2007. Similarly, in accordance with labor law, Turkish Airlines gave notice to the union that a strike would result in the imposition of a lockout.
At present, neither a strike nor lockout is definite. The strike notification is the union's official method to alert Turkish Airlines that it will exercise its right to strike if an agreement cannot be reached. While negotiations are continuing, all Turkish Airlines flights will operate as scheduled.
We will keep you advised of any further developments.

You are right, only for Turk, as you know not for all TK employee, the management in this company doesn't know what's the meaning of fair and respected to their oversea employee.
In term of the salary range (50-70% lower compare with Turk in the same position and doing same job), benefit (no benefit at all including no medical support) for the oversea local TK employee (especically for far east staff).
Can you believe TK paying 1 - 3 USD per day for allowance to their oversea staff duty in Istanbul?
Best???? you better tell your TK management to learn with EK, QR & CX, at least they are respecting and fair to each of their employee.
