I am flying to Rome (FCO) from DFW on Saturday, Dec. 30. My flight is AA38 DFW-ZRH, Boeing 777 connecting with Swissair A321 (first time on Airbus) on to FCO. I was wondering if there will be any significant weather patterns over the North Atlantic this time of year. I have only flown the North Atlantic routes in mid March and all those flights have been fairly smooth with not much in the way of thunderstorm build ups. I know in the winter, westbound on the Pacific, you will encounter strong head winds. Any chance of that on the N.A. route? For some reason, I think due to a scary flight when I was younger, I get very nervous during turbulance, especially in thunderstorms, even though I know the plane is 99.9% safe in turbulance.
Also, what can I expect from Kloten and Fuimicino?

North Atlantic tends to experience a lot of chop on the most Northern transatlantic paths, but DFW-ZRH shouldn't be affected by that too badly. Moderate chop at worst.
