As a former Expressjet employee at LIT, I recently flew out on Chatauqua on a CO express flight out of LIT on 7/24/07. I noticed the gate agent went down the jetway and closed the security door behind her when she saw the Chatauqua crew coming. The crew had to wait about 10 minutes for her to come back to be allowed down the jetbridge. We boarded the flight and PAX, FA, plane, etc. were ready to go, but the pilots were still sorting out "paperwork" issues. The cabin door was still open and the ramp crew were making "incompetency" comments about Chatauqua. The PAX and crew could hear what the ramp crew was saying. While in flight I asked the FA about this and she replied that "we're the new guys in town" and that they experience this at most stations. I understand "paperwork issues" but the comments were uncalled for, at least wait until the cabin door is closed. So what's goin' on with Expressjet and Chatauqua at COEX stations, or is this an isolated issue?

If this is something that occurs at most stations, then it's extremely unprofessional on the part of the ExpressJet employees. It seems that while they're probably the best regional airline in the United States, they can't handle competition from another carrier.
I've noticed, though, at least from what I've read here, that it's limited to the employees who don't seem capable of realizing that CO bringing in another Express carrier means that ExpressJet is no longer dependent on a single major airline (with the introduction of DL Connection flights out of LAX, although the flying is being done at-risk) and that they're now out making a name for themselves on largely ignored/underserved niche routes throughout the country, all of which would probably have never happened had CO not brought Chautauqua in.

Unfortunately the disrespect you witnessed is not limited to LIT. I have seen and heard of it at many stations. Luckily, it seems to be subsiding a bit with Expressjet's new relationship with Delta and their own namesake operations. However, it has not been limited to Chatauqua alone. SkyWest and Colgan crews were also somewhat mistreated.
Its kind of interesting, Colgan crews were really abused until Chatauqua showed up. Now, Expressjet employees treat Colgan like long time pals. Funny how time and contracts change one's views.
