Hello Anetters!
First of all Hi @ll, I'm a newbie!
Because all the other threads regarding the new PTVs for LH are allready archived I was forced to start a new topic.
Please correct me if i did wrong or move the post to an actual topic.

I'd like to share two pics with you guys wich i received today from a friend who is working for LH in FRA.
They were taken in the LH Base in FRA and show one of the IFE systems LH can choose of during the next months/weeks. There is an information that both systems will be shown at the base from 25th august.
If i get pics of the other system i will post them here too.

I think they look very huge!
And if i am correct the control panel in the armrest looks like the actual one which makes wonder if this is the IFE system with the touchscreen controls?
Any thoughts?
Regards
PeppiCGN

I dont think they are touch screen. They look very similar, if not, identical, to the Qatar Airways IFE PTV's on their A340's and A330's.  Smile

I think that you will find that is the actual PTV for a bulkhead row -rather than a control mechanism ( there is no seatback to put a TV into for pax in the bulkhead row )

I think he means the little control pads on the actual armrests and not the bulkhead row PTV  Smile

You are right Airdolomiti.
I meant the panel on the left armrest of the second row.
It looks like the panel for volume, channel selection, lights and service as in the current Y in LHs longhaul fleet.
When i compare it with other IFEs i'm missing the remote/gamepad for your screen. They could be inside the left armrest but we can't tell from these pictures.
That's why i supposed this is the touchscreen system.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Welcome to Airliners.net, PeppiCGN!!!

The pictures look great and more interesting is that there is only one system-box beneath the seats. Hopefully it remains that way, our legs will thank that.

Thanks PeppiCGN!
Can't wait to see them in the aircraft.. Well overdue. I really like Lufthansa but have been avoiding flying with them because there are no PVTs in Economy.
What I like the most is their cool interior design. Very different than any airline I have flown with.
Cheers,

On Delta's international 767-400s and 777s, all controls are done on the touch screen in economy. That includes the controls for the reading lights and the call buttons. BusinessElite also gets a handset. Delta's Transcon 757s have buttons for the channel and volume with a small orange LED display, but since it is a narrowbody aircraft, the reading light and call buttons are overhead.

Does anyone know who is the provider for LH's new system?

I know that people keep saying this, especially here on this forum but if you guys believe it or not, I haven´t had a single passenger complain over missing PTV´s in Economy ever on one of my flights.

Anyhow, LH flights are always packed even without PTV´s... so that´s how they argued. Why invest money if it isn´t really necessary.

There are more complains from FA´s who believe that PTV´s would make up for a more settled and relaxed atmosphere during the flight. It keeps passengers kind of occupied and out of the aisles and galleys. It´s true that on airlines that offer PTV´s the cabin atmosphere is a lot more relaxed and very calm, wheras on LH people keep running around the cabin, gather in the galleys (from where we always have to send them back to their seats) or somewhere else in the cabin around the doors or lavatories involved in rather loud conversations... etc.

I can´t wait for PTV´s introduced on LH´s flights!

I guess they just felt it was about time to get them. Which is certainly very true!

It looks good!!! I´m eager to have a look at it when it´s shown in august.

Best regards

L1011Lover

Damned lazy people!  duck

In reality, that should be the best thing to come out of the things. A lot of people do not know how to keep themselves occupied with a book, as a passenger I'd rather have them fiddling with their personal TV screens, too. Being able to see the airshow at all times will be the nice one for us travel enthusiasts, however.  Wink

Does this change in attitude from LH have much to do with the end of Connexion by Boeing, per chance? LH did already have the most unlimited entertainment system in the world on board their aircraft, it simply wasn't their decision to keep it or drop it.

There will actually be two types of TV's across the fleet during testing!

One type will be AVOD and the other IFE, after a voting done by passengers on these flights it will be chosen which one is better and then put on the whole fleet.

I dont see why its so secret. Its PTV's in the back of a seat. Something that most good airlines have in Y class for a while now. Great to see them finally on LH A/C over the next 12 months.

As far as I know there was a official statement released by LH earlier this year saying tat they will equip their long haul fleet with PTV's in Y. If I am not mistaken it was included in the statment mentioning that LH will introduce it's new First Class on A330 /A340 next year.

The A346's and A333s will be the first to get them. It's still not decided if the 744s and A340s will get the PTVs. I think LH is waiting to see how smoothly the installation goes. BTW, I believe the first test aircraft will begin flying in October. The routes are DTW and IAH and then one more that I can't remember (maybe YYZ). Can't wait to see them!
