Emirates is launching a global roadshow that will be promoting their product year-round to consumers. More interesting than the fact that they are promoting themselves, however, are some of the destinations they will be stopping at, possibly to gauge local reaction or talk with local tourism/business officials about potential service [this is me speculating, I don't know if they actually will]. While the majority of the destinations Emirates will visit are new to Emirates' route map, some aren't served by Emirates at all.

http://www.emirates.com/usa/AboutEmi...ews/GN_NewsDetail.asp?yr=2007&St=2

The show will travel to Ahmedabad, Calgary, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Toronto, and Tyneside (Newcastle), now through October.

Everyone was telling me there was no way Emirates would serve Calgary before Vancouver or Montreal. This would seem to hint that maybe Calgary will be the next Canadian destination.

Well I hope you win! I'd love to see Emirates here in YYC!

Any idea if for this roadshow they will be flying in to YYC? Or are they just coming through with some upper management types and no plane?

It is a upper management tour of sorts,The jet will fly to YYC and the ''group'' will be doing tour's of Calgary,Edmonton,Grande prarie and Ft.Mcmurray.There are also some private aircraft travelling aswell in the group. There is a Saudi registered aircraft at YEG today that leaves tommorow.Middle eastern interest in this province is on the up and up.Also watch for some major annoucements on this trip!!!Alberta is in for a major surprise!

I'm curious as to why they are stopping in Miami. Calgary makes sense thanks to oil traffic, Dallas and Rio de Janeiro have good proximity to Houston and Sao Paulo. But Miami? They have bigger fish to fry in the US.

Rumor mill time!Well sort of...

YYC wont be getting new service right away due to the current bi-latteral,but Emirates will state its intention to serve YYC and fight for it as per usual.YEG comes into play aswell but my lips are sealed.Cargo/Pax service is in the works...A f.b.o in YEG is already posting ''Welcome Emirates'' to its main wall facing the apron. Also a few Saudi and a Qatar registered private airplanes are due to visit YYC and YEG in the next few weeks.

...possibly connections to South Africa such as JNB? I've flown JFK-DXB-JFK a couple of times and I know a few people were flying to other African destinations via DXB (even though its much closer to fly say JFK-LHR-JNB)..so MIA-DXB-JNB isn't a far-fetched idea...

EK already send 3X B773ER to JNB, so there is obviously a large market on the DXB-JNB route...

Also, DXB would be would be ideal for MIA-DXB-Asia (such as BKK)...it is just a couple of hundred extra nm over MIA-LAX-BKK....

Well, I'm not denying the market for Miami-Dubai, and I'm sure Emirates would make it work, I just clearly don't it see it as a priority ahead of some other routes (IAD, SFO, ORD, and LAX). I would venture to guess, though, that under a hypothetical situation in which Emirates were to fly to Miami sooner rather than later, it might be in response to Delta's Atlanta service.

Well, I'm glad to see they're interested in Dallas. We don't seem to have any direct flights to that area of the world AFAIK. Also, any international player would be a great addition here. Assuming they like what they see/hear at DFW, does anyone see them coming here with regular pax ops? How does the middle eastern market look? Do they have alliances with domestic airlines here? What sort of frequency and a/c would we be getting? Hope we don't loose them to IAH where most other internationals seem to go first.

I didn't get a 'Harumph' outta that guy!

They are going to Houston first. Emirates launches Dubai-Houston service this fall.

I bet if Emirates goes to Dallas, it will be cargo-only. At least initially. DFW is a great international cargo hub.

While Miami is mentioned, I don't know if its going to be a priority over say ORD. In fact, AFAIK, ORD is ready in terms of gate space, check-in counters ect. Part of the delay as to why EK won't be coming to ORD is because of A380's delays, which has put a hamper on their expansion plans (until they get their other frames).

Also, its great promotion for EK in MIA.

Finally, I've noticed EK "marching to their own drum beat" so-to-speak. While I'm sure they pay attention to their competition, I'm not so sure if it's like the level one sees here in the domestic USofA market...
