I have just read an article in the recent issue of Flug Revue about the A318 Elite in which was stated that airlines that have ordered the passenger version of the A318 are Air France, Tarom, LAN, Frontier and US Airways.
This made me wonder because I believed that they changed their order into orders for the A319 ?

They're currently still shown on the Airbus orders sheet as A318s but maybe when the Paris order is added to the sheet these will morph into A319s?

If they do take delivery of the a318's, IIRC that will make them the second airline to operate the entire a32x family. But unfortunately I believe you are right that they will be converted to a319's.

I believe Airbus has already production slots for these aircraft so any idea until when US has to say whether they want A318s or A319s ?

I think the same but it would be nice to see an A318 in US colors.

The A318 order was cancelled in 2002, the spots were optioned off to add additional A319 and A320 orders, IIRC. The A318s are not coming to US AIrways.

WIth US receiving E190's, don't really see the need for 318's.

I don't see the need either. It would therefore be redundant if they were to go with the A318. The only merit this would bring would be for them to be among the "elite" airlines operating the entire A320 fleet.
Some merit...

This subject has been beaten to death many times. US will NEVER take delivery of a single A318. The E190 orders effectively put an end to any possibility of it.

LAN is very unhappy with its new A318. The unique aircraft (CC-CVA) has a lot of problems with the PW6000 engines, forced to the company to put out of service many times in less of two months.
Is probably that LAN will receive only 5 A318 ordered and convert the others 15 A318 into A319. Also LAN is studying to replace also its 5 new A318.

RJ Delta (reply 11)...this is the first I've heard of the A318 having problems with the PW motors. I thought those issues were solved some time ago. Could you elaborate some more on what you know of LAN's A318 troubles? I'm curious about this situation.
Just FYI to everyone regarding the A318 for US Airways EAST...it was America WEST that ordered the aircraft a long time ago. HP converted the order into A319s before the merger talks, let alone before the actual shotgun wedding.
My opinion. Regards.

Well if this the first time that you heard problems with the A318 PW is because there is only one A318 in service at this moment (CC-CVA in LAN Airlines delivered the last June 1st). The A318PW program was delayed 4 or 5 months because engines problems, specially with the reduced climb thrust. The first A318PW would be delivered in March 2006 but because the engine problems the aircraft was delivered after 4 months. Also during its daily operation A318 presented more problems now with an asymmetric reverse thrust forced to LAN to put it out service many times, I remember more than four or five times in less of two months.
For LAN the A318 has other problems with its unique babybus:
Quoting RJ_Delta (Thread starter): Because the engine problems of the new PW6000 and the small underfloor capacity LAN will introduce only 5 A318 at this moment, considering also to replace the A318 modifying the order in favor of 15 A319.
Yes they most ceirtanly do, they operate 10, and if the much rumoured "trial" that MX wants to do with the A321 ever does happen, then MX would be the second airline to operate an entire A32X family (after AF). I had read on the other LAN Thread that LA actually will be introducing 5 A318's, so perhaps they still have some hope in the program. In any case, if LA eventually decides to get rid of their A318's altogether, then I think they will have a tough time finding them a home... I'd hate to see such an early scrapping of any babybus, but yet again, perhaps someone might be interested in taking the frames and re-engineing them. (MX? AF? Anyone? LOL)
Too bad such a cute lil' plane turned out to be kind of late to the 100-seater party...

Quoting Flynavy (Reply 6): Who got the US Airways A318 production slots?
IIRC, IB got the A318 production slots. This was at a stage when the upsurge in orders was in it's infancy at the beginning of 2005. The A318 productions slots gave Airbus the edge over Boeing in terms of a quicker delivery schedule. These A318s were later converted by IB to A319s.
