I think its time to armor the cockpit doors.

British Airways Passenger Fights Pilots in Cockpit

London, Dec. 29 (Bloomberg) -- British Airways Plc said one of its passenger jets made two uncontrolled dives when a man broke into the cockpit, fought the pilots, and tried to seize the controls during a flight from London to Nairobi early today.

The Boeing 747 left London's Gatwick Airport last night and was about three hours from Nairobi with 398 passengers and crew aboard when the Kenyan national burst into the cockpit. In a two- minute struggle, the autopilot disengaged and Captain William Hagan, 53, was bitten on his ear and finger.

``The aircraft made sudden maneuvers during the struggle,'' airline spokesman Steve Double said in an interview. ``The pilot got the aircraft under control and a man is in custody in Nairobi.''

Passenger Benjamin Goldsmith told Sky News that fellow travelers were woken at around 4:30 a.m. by screaming. Goldsmith was traveling to Kenya with his sister, Jemima Khan, wife of Pakistani politician and former cricket star Imran Khan, and his mother Lady Annabel Goldsmith.

``The aircraft went into two violent dives. Grown men were screaming,'' Goldsmith told Sky News. ``The engines cut out and it was silent for a few seconds.''

The ``whole plane was hysterical. I don't think there was a single person on the plane who didn't think we were going to crash,'' Goldsmith said. ``There was a violent shuddering and then the engines cut out altogether.''

The aircraft, flight BA2069, landed safely at Nairobi international airport at 7:10 a.m. London time. The man who broke into the cockpit was arrested on arrival at Nairobi. Authorities at the airport declined to comment on where he was being detained.

Four passengers and one female crew member suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital in Nairobi, British Airways said in a statement.

Sky News said the aircraft's captain told some passengers that if the dive had lasted four or five seconds more, the co- pilot wouldn't have been able to regain control.
