Quote: Private Pakistani airline Airblue said Thursday it plans to buy eight to 14 new passenger aircraft, which are likely to cost a total of $ 400 million to $700 million.
The deliveries will begin in 2009 and are likely to be completed in 24 to 42 months' time.
A decision will be made within the next two months - likely during October's Dubai Air Show - on what type of plane will replace the existing fleet of leased aircraft, Airblue Chief Operating Officer Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told reporters in an informal briefing.
At about $50 million an aircraft, the deal is expected to be worth between $ 400 million and $700 million, he said.
"The airline needs short- to medium-haul aircraft," he said, adding that the choice had been narrowed down to between the Airbus A320 and the new generation 737 from Boeing Co. (BA).
However, a senior airline official, who asked not to be named, said the company has all but settled on the A320.
Given that all previous reports have been strictly speaking about the A32X and maybe A330 any other type would be a major surprise. Still, an order is expected since months - wait and see IMO.
