Panrotas is reporting AA will increase high season frequencies between Miami and Sao Paulo and will increase the number of frequencies with 777. The article is unclear though as it says there will be an additional 5 weekly frequencies, 3 of them with 777s resulting in an extra 120 seats per day. I am just translating it - it does not add up. Is it 3 frequencies a week with 777 or three times daily?

This 5x weekly flight has been authorized only till January 28th 2008 and will be a daylight. AA could use the 772 that use to be on ground all the day but seems to be a waste of equipment as the yields on the daylight are low.

I don't expect this but will be not a big surprise.

The yields are low, but the extra cargo capacity might make it worthwhile. Cargo is where the daylight makes pretty much all its profit.

On another related article published on Mercado e Eventos, it was mentioned that they intend to fly to Bahia and Pernambuco but it will depend on the revision of the bilaterals. The Brazilian side has 70 unused weekly slots and if revised, they intend to fly 757s to these routes.

Correct, and they already have the planes reserved to launch this routes with the end-of-January schedule change. There would be four weekly flights to Savlador and three weekly flights to Recife.

On a related question, has AA upgraded the entire 767 fleet flying MIA-GIG to the new interior/biz class? Or is it still hit or miss? Anyone has any pics of the new bird's interior.

They should all be converted by the end of the year. AA does not rotate new-C class 763s on particular routes, as the costs involved in doing such scheduling can be high. They do try their best to put them on all JFK-Europe flights, though.

On my last flight MIA-GIG this past July they had the new J seats in there. Looked very nice, but seemed a bit cramped in my opinion.

It's unlikely that the extra slots be filled by the BR carriers, so is there a chance for revision to the bi-lateral since the demand is growing? AA is growing at a 15% per year in Brazil! UA is launching IAD-GIG and looking for further expansion. That leaves TAM, RG or Ocean Air.

UA is not looking for further expansion. The only expansion you might see is IAD-GIG becoming year-round. Other than that, there won't be anything.

Expansion will most likely just come from American Airlines, and possibly Delta Airlines.

Again though, the Brazilian government is holding everything up. They are very fortunate that AA is a ridiculously patient airline. If I were AA, I would have said "screw you" by now.

Not immediatelly, but they haven't ruled it out either. The Mercado e Eventos article mentions that despite the amount of requests they've been receiving for adding service to the North and Northeastern part of Brazil, the country is still the primary market in Latin America and there is interest in expanding to new routes, but gradually.

(Last Paragraph)

AA directors (in Brazil) also revealed that the only way to increase capacity will be to use 3 777s during the months of December, January, February and March to the MIA route. This change will add about 40 additional seats per flight. "This is the way we found to expand our capacity. There's a need to revise the bilateral. Brazilian Minister Martha Suplicy said that new frequencies to cities in the South and SouthEast are out of the question. Therefore, we have plans to fly in the future to Salvador and Receive. For this, we'll have to use Boeings 757 with additional (fuel) tanks and with capacity for 180 pax", says Mr. Rodrigues.
