Can someone explain this? Is there an MD-11 with new colors, or do they just paint the nose cones in advance? Could this nose cone possibly have come from another airplane, like the 767 or something??

Hey Hank, I noticed that to. I think its a Nose Piece from a 767, or 777. I saw a New Colors Nose Piece on a Old Colors Delta Express 737-200 at MCO yesterday. It looked strange.

CYA HANK,

Radome work is now outsourced, so I believe all of our spare radomes come in white....

This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

Could a 767 nose piece fit on an MD-11?

NO- those radomes are not interchangeable.

the 707, 727, and 737 I think might be swapped, but since the 757/767/777/M11 have entirely different nose cones, they wouldn't fit at all.

But that leads one to wonder- how long will DL keep their MD-11s??? Long enough to repoint them in the new colors??? Gee, I hope so!!!

They definitely don´t use the 767 nose cone, as this isn´t approved by the CAA ant the FAA.
The only reason is, that this is simply a spare part, perhaps from the original manufacturer or from a spare part company or even from a different airline ( I guess World!). They´re usually painted in white.

Spare nosecones are usually painted white. You'll see that at a lot of other airlines too, not just DL.

Do you people not read other posts before you give wrong answers. Gee...

A Delta mechanic give the answer to the question, and then everyone continues to bullshit the stuff.

Gosh read DL Mech.

And NO a B767 nose does NOT fit. Why would you think that? Duh...

Sure, retro jets for each of the majors would look nice. We' all love to LOOK at them and PHOTOGRAPH them. But would that generate any new traffic? How many of you would actually FLY on it? Would the travlling public as a whole be wooed by that kind of program to warrant the cost of a one-off paint scheme?
I highly doubt it. And that's why you don't see more retro jets and why it's unlikely you'll see many more.
