Have you ever seen a plane a short time before it crashed? For me, a chilling experience was seeing the EgyptAir 767 that crashed (Flt. #990). I had just arrived back from New York to LAX. I saw it sitting at the Bradley terminal as I taxied to the gate. I thought nothing of it at the time, but then the next day when I heard what had happened, and that it was the EgyptAir plane I saw, I thought...."yikes....that plane was just a few hours from oblivion.
Ever had any similar experiances?

That's good...but I'm talking about seeing it within a day or so, or a few hours of it crashing.....I have a picture of TWA 747 N93119 (TWA #800), but that doesn't count because I took the picture over a year before the incident.

Not an airliner, but I saw a DeHaviland Beaver crash right before my eyes. Th mechanic had reversed the flight controls, and the pilot did'nt pre-flight the plane because it was going to be a short hop across town (Anchorage), and when he tookoff, instead of making a climbing right turn, he made a decending left turn and crashed near the F.A.A. building at Lake Hood, exploding on impact, killing the pilot instantly.

I'm pretty sure I saw that TWA 747 departing from JFK on Flt. 800 about a week before the crash happened. I was at JFK for the 2nd time to spot.

Very scary thing if I did, not sure if it was Flt. 800, but I saw one there before the crash.

When did TWA retire the rest of their 747s after tha accident?

I saw the SQ tropical 747 in mid September in SYD. Not long before it went down. I will keep the photo I took of it as a momento, even though it was through a window and there are bad reflections.

I've seen N963AS a few times. I think once at PDX and once at LAX. The flight 261 crash took place Jan. 31 2000 and I flew an AS MD-80 to PDX the 29th and an AS 734 back down the 30th. The news of 261 was quite a shock to me that Monday and still saddens me and I'm sure it saddens many others.

I flew TW840 to FCO on a 747 in December 1996 and people were still caught up on 800 and my friends thought I was crazy for flying them, non-aviation people! My friend flew TWA to ATH the night of flight 800.

Sad stuff,

N960AS

As a spotter and traveller, I happen to see most planes which later crashed... N963AS was the only MD-80 which was in ANC the day I took my Electra flight there in August 99. The Kenya A313 was a regular visitor to Amsterdam. Saw the Tropical parked in Singapore, the Concorde in JFK, etc. etc. Scary nevertheless every time an aircraft crashes...

I flew on DC8-62 HB-IDE from LOS-GVA in 1979 - it subsequently overran the runway at ATH. I was booked on the PA103 flight that was blown up over Lockerbie - I took an earlier BA flight and didn't know anything about it until the following morning. Now that was freaky...

I took a photo of the first Lauda Air plane I had ever seen in HKG while I was getting ready to return to the US in 1991. I have photos of people walking up the stairs and into the plane from the bus. If these people even knew what they were about to get into!!! The flight left about an hour before mine and I heard about the accident when I got home.

I flew on the British Midland 737-400 only 2 hours before it crashed in 1989, it was chilling arriving home and finding out that the very same plane had crashed.

Yes it was. The flight was supposed to fly HKG-BKK-VIE but crashed in Thailand after leaving BKK because of a reverser problem. I don't know if Lauda was allowed to carry local traffic from HKG to BKK but I don't think many people would think of them for this flight except to go to VIE. I flew HKG-ANC-LAX on DL but I was staying a week in ANC and that is where I saw the news when I checked into the hotel. I was shocked but even more shocked when I got home and had the photos developed and saw these people getting on the plane.

Not me, but I heard some fishermen in the Everglades saw the DC9 spiraling and nosediving....off in the distance....followed by a huge cloud of mud.

I think that if you'd see something like that you'd need psychological counseling!!!!!!

This is not really rated to the topic but it is related to the SIA crash. In 1996 on my first trip to USA, I was flying with my family , MH90 (It was then KUL-TPE-LAX, it now is KUL-DXB-EWR). The weather was exactly the same as it was on Oct31 2000 and we got delayed in TPE till the typhoon passed over. When we were landing, we were getting tossed about and there was heavy rain, lightning and thunder.
On a side note, I flew 9V-SPJ, on Sep 5th 2000. This aircraft was delivered just before 9V-SPK.
