Does VS In Sydney Tag Hand Baggage?

You know how some airlines tag your hand baggage for weight/security reasons?

Does Virgin do this in Australia for flights to London? My best friend is flying tomorrow and has a very heavy hand baggage. He says for me to keep it with me whiel he checks in but.. what if they ask to tag it? then he's stuffed.

I suggested he takes a light hand baggage to the counter as he's had to weigh his hand baggage before... and then fill it up with his laptop and books after....that way it can be tagged as security checked (if Virgin Atlantic even does this?)

thanks in advance

None of my family have been "tagged" at SYD to HKG.

That said though I've been "tagged" loads ex PVG on VS, i.e. the whole flight has, but other times it's not been asked of me.

In PVG they use generic PVG hand baggage tags (yellow) more often than VS tags. If you do get a tag it will more than likely be a VS one at SYD.

Flew SYD-HKG-SYD about 2 weeks ago. Had my hand luggage tagged on both occasions with the Gate closes 30 mins before thing.

Was weighed in HKG but not SYD

I flew VS just 2 days ago SYD-HKG (very impressed by the way - they have gotten better since I last flew them). They weighed handluggage to confirm it was under 6kg (mine was 7kg but they let me through) and tagged it as official handluggage. This was checked at the gate.

The same occured at HKG for the return.

Not sure if it made a difference that both flights were 100% full.

Sorry not SYD but flew LHR-JFK on VS 1-Aug, they checked and tagged my hand baggage at check-in. When boarding, all non-tagged baggage it seemed was hand-checked by security forces.

This was checked at the gate

Hmmm so maybe he should take up a lighter hand baggage and then add in his laptop etc after having checked in!

That was what I did at LHR. My carry on bag was over, so I took some stuff out. After leaving and having it tagged, added that stuff back in plus a bunch of stuff I bought with no problems.
