I work for inflight with US West. I was wondering why are some planes configured diff inside. Some airplanes have smaller V1 engines too. Theyre like hair dryers. My question is where have they gotten these airplanes from? Like what airlines? Both A320 and B733. I know some 320's came from BRANIFF, but what about the other? Any info would be great. Ive always been curious about this.

Those Braniff A320's were aquired at a very cheap price so it really didn't matter what the configuration was, price is what they were probably going for
Most of the other HP aircraft (737,757,A319, A320) were either bought/leased straight from Airbus/Boeing or leased through a secondary lease company. You would probably need a registration number to track exactly where each aircraft has been.

This was the new Braniff, a reincarnation founded in 1984. They were definitely still around in 1989/90. They were rapidly growing between 1984 and 1989. I can´t remember when exactly they folded?!

well some airplanes like we have been in FLL or ORD and we can only take certain amounts of people and cargo. those planes on a hot day in phx have to leave bags or leave like 15 to 20 people behind. they are smaller V1 engines. dunno why.

A lot of those A320s are from Braniff well the 2nd one. Do a photo search you will see Braniff A320s. They got them cheap. That is when they got there first A320s. The first 6 757 were from Republic or built for them, but when they became Northwest they did not want them because the were RB 211 powered. Those 747 were so old LOL and damn near put them out of business.

OK, I think what you mean is that some acft have lower rated thrust available for high-hot field performance. V1 is not an engine type but a take off stage (in layman terms). I know we had the same problem at LAS with some older acft and we'd argue with acft scheduling that in August, if they used that equipment at that time of day we could take pax or bags but not both.

On the East side, all 737 models, all Airbus models and all the 767's came factory fresh to either US or Piedmont (767 and 737's). Half of the 767's were delivered to PI before the merger, the others after. The 400's were ordered by PI, but almost all of them were delivered to US post merger. Some were delivered to PI in hybrid US livery. PI also brought 300's with it too.
About 12 of the 757's came from EA after sitting a year or more in the desert. They are the lower tail numbers (600-612) in the old pre-merger numbering system. They have 737-300 style interior sidewalls and PSU's. The last half were ordered factory fresh from Boeing and have 737-400 style interior sidewalls and advanced PSU's.
The history say they stopped regular service in 1990 and only operated charters in 91 & 92 then it was over. I flew them in
89 ORD-MCI-LAX in MCI the LAX flt was not at the gate on the vid screen and their agents couldn't find it either.

The HP 757s had the retractable bin system removed for weight conservation. Those a/c came from RC (old Republic). The original A320s came from Braniff 2 (or was it 3 by then?). I was in the original training class for the delivery of those first 10 A320s in the early 90s. The hair dryer engines you talk about are the IAE Engines AG V2500, and that was what was on the original BN A320s so we went with that on the rest of the fleet, plus HP got a good deal on them via Airbus. They also have had good performance on HOT days, and even at high altitude airports such as ABQ, I almost never took a weight restriction on them. The US Airbus fleet has the CFM-56 powerplants, which are larger in circumference. The 737 fleet is a mix bag of a/c. I remember some having Garuda Indonesian interiors, and signage. The company also got a few 737-200s way way back from CP on lease. A/C 141 thru 147 had those tiny overhead bins, so small a roller bag wouldnt fit in them.
PS. Those 747s from KL were pieces of junk.

I am sure that it wouldn't even matter where he sat in that regard. The entire crew would be paying sole attention to him whether he was in F or all the way in the back.
Of course, the seats in F are more comfy and of higher quality... usually anyway. I don't know much about HP's F class from back in the day unfortunately...
