The 73W to EWR isn't daily, it's six per week... which is how the 13 flights make sense again...  Wink

I was a bit surprised to notice the seemingly small amount of flights to NYC when I looked through the GDSs at work a couple of days ago - just three daily widebodies and one almost daily 73W... I would have thought that there's more demand from here...

Even adding in the two flights from MUC - 5 flights to NYC per day... hmm... have to admit, that I had somehow always considered this route to have more of a market.

LH is adding quite a bit of capacity to New York this winter.

FRA-NYC gets an additional 6 times weekly 737 service to EWR
MUC-NYC gets one additional widebody service instead of the 737

I know - there's also SQ (B744), DL (B763) and CO (B762) operating on the route, but that still doesn't change the fact that I was somewhat surprised that LH just has so few flights on the route: look at what's operating from CDG or LHR (comparison using 1 November):

me too! I always thought LH were flying four time a day from FRA to JFK.
I really am a little surprised - I mean, only a twice daily service from FRA with LH? Seriously?

Maybe a sign, that they are indeed short of long haul ACs?
On the other hand, they "added a proper" flight to MUC, and also they might start to distribute their NYC traffic better between FRA, MUC and now ZRH? Is LX ZRH-JFK twice daily? But still remarkable since the bankers in Frankfurt can now only choose between two dailies to JFK.

MUC gets 1x daily service, and on the UA side MUC is only getting 767-300ER service from ORD. FRA might be on smaller 343s vs 346s, but it's getting service double daily, and on the United end, UA is serving FRA from ORD w/ 777-200ER, so UA is picking up a bit bigger aircraft on this service (since they are, in effect, the same airline across the atlantic ala revenue sharing). Also, while I don't have proof, I would say that the LH/UA machine is routing more North American traffic through IAD as the port of entry than ORD than before, and you'll notice that IAD is getting strong service from FRA on both UA and LH ends.

In any event, I never found LH 747s that nice, in Y at least, so they aren't really missed. Maybe once LH gets PTV in, that'll improve things, but I'll take a UA 767 or 777 over a LH 747 any day of the week... though I do enjoy LH 343/346... they may not have PTV, but they do have nice seats.

How come the 2nd TLV flight LH690/1 will be downgraded from A346 2 Class to A343 3 class. Is there a need for offering First Class on both daily flights and was the A346 2 class too big for the route? I was on it once and C class was max 50% full hoever this was on a friday evening so I don't know how loads generally were, anybody know?

So LH is doing the traditional off season reductions out of LAX with the discontinued second 744 or will it be brought back early in 2008 prior to the Spring schedule? Do they make this reduction considering AI has service to FRA as well?

You always need to compare winter to winter. And comparing that there are large capacity increases from muc to almost all longhaul destinations compared to the year before
