What are your opinions of Boeing's great 777? Does the triple-7 offer a better flying experience than the 747? And what differences are noticeable (as a passenger) between the 777-200 and 777-300 variants?

In economy I prefer the 777 as often they are in a 2-5-2 configuration which allows a single traveler like me to sit by the window and not have to crawl over 2 people to pee. Plus if you are traveling with someone then you can sit in a pair alone. In addition, I really like the interior and LOT has a point that most airlines have put PTV's in all seats.
As far as Business and First class go, I prefer the 747. The arrangement of seats with most airlines is 2-3-2 on both aircraft. So sisnce the 747 is wider you'll get more space. Plus I have had one opportunity to fly on the upper deck of a 744 and Loved it, spacious, 2-2, and private! For first class nothing beats flying in the nose of a 747 with the abundance of space (on most airlines).
However, overall I love the two just the same

While I like the 777 more than the 747, I really enjoy flying on the 747. I traveled to LHR and CDG over the summer aboard a UA 747 and then a UA 777. Obviously, the 747 offers an additional seat in each row. Additionally, I love the image that surrounds the queen of the skies. Flying aboard the 747 is an unparalleled experience. It's great to look out the window, and see two engines and a winglet. The 747 had the big screen while the 777 had PTV's. Obviously, the PTV is much friendlier to the passengers but I miss the old fashioned big screen! The bottom line: I like the 777 more than the 747 but I prefer flying aboard the 747. Doesn't make sense, huh? Well I haven't figured it out yet, either!

For first or business class, I prefer the 747 (not that I have travelled in F or C/J class in a 777, but 2-3-2 is better on a 747 than a 777 in terms of width, and nothing beats the 747's Zone-A). In economy class, I think the 777 takes it because the interior is simply nice, and the overhead bins are nice (as long as you dont bump your head on the things... OUCH, and some stupid woman laughed at me when I did it too, just to add insult to injury!!!)

i flew on a thai 777-300 a few months ago from bkk to syd. i was very impressed by the spaciousness of the interior and the seats were a lot larger and more ergonomic and hence more comfortable. their configuration is 3-3-3 which means still climbing over two other passengers when getting out which was more difficult than the 747-400 'coz there was less leg room. thai also has 777-200 for regional routes but the configuration is 3-4-3.
