I heard just about a month ago that Finnair should be returning to SFO in the summer of 2001 with leisure flights (at least) to SFO. I have lots of evidence that basically almost seals it's truth, but I'll ask somebody either at the local Finnair office in San Francisco or someone in the Information Department in Helsinki. Here's what I've found so far:
#1: Unamed Finnair employee says "leisure flights to YTO (YYZ) are
coming back this summer, and maybe SFO, but I don't know that for sure."
#2: Another Finnair employee says upon being asked about it that "that's possible, because in my knowledge, both SFO & YYZ have been fully booked and profitable in the summertime but with lousy revenue at the ends of the season."
#3: While riding the bus to San Francisco from SFO, I talked with a Lufthansa Passenger Service Agent (named Christian, if you're on this board then hello!)who said that Finnair was recently added to the common-use check-in system at the new International Terminal at SFO.
and the best piece of information:
#4: A Finnair 2001 pocket calendar/Finnair info booklet had a little plane next to SFO in it's list of world airports, the little plane logo symbolizes that the airport is used for regular Finnair flights. (ok not the best but I like it the most )
Feel free to comment good/bad/indifferent!

As you probably know by now, there won't be any leisure flights to SFO. They thought about it, but unfortunately they decided not to go with it. Decisions like this are never carved in stone, but don't expect any Finnair a/c at SFO this year. Finnair serves SFO with a daily code share (with oneworld partner AA) and that's probably what the entry in the calendar (hope you like it, Kai) refers to.
