Hi guys! I was just returned from Borders, where I read the Airways airlines handbook. It said that America West had 4 747-200 on order. Is this true, or was it a mistake?
If it is true, then why the old version of the 747 when there are many new versions?
WHere will they fly them?
P.S. This is NOT certain, but I heard a few days ado, that a new group of investors is lookiing to start a new airline, and they are planning to achire the Eastern or the Carnival Airlines name!!!! That is SO cool! I ca´n´t wait for a formal press release!

You might be confused with 757-200's I am not sure if they have any of them on order, but 2 large problems with the 747-200's on order first they do not amke them and second it would not fit into AWA schedule!

In the early 90s the 747-400 order was the least of their ambitious plans. In 88 they had an order for like 6 Airbus 300s and w/ options for 12 more and 6 767-300ERS. Talk about an airline with a big head that thought it was going to be the next UAL/AA/DL/NW/CO at the time! I don't know the circumstances of how the Airbus order got dropped but the 767 orders I think got converted to the 737s/747-400 which were also later dropped.
