Effective SUN 28OCT 07, Japan Airlines will replace 747-300s with 747-400s on its NRT-BNE-NRT services. If my information serves me correctly, this will also mean that JAL International will replace JALways to Brisbane.

Does anyone know why JL are moving to 747-400s on Brisbane services? Is it simply to bring us into line with Sydney or provide some sort of consistency with the Australian product? Now if my information serves me correctly again, I believe Skyluxe J seats will be on offer on BNE services and not the Executive shell seats - if true are there any plans to introduce these seats on SYD/BNE services?

I will certainly miss seeing the classics, in particular JA8186 - Reso'cha in Brisbane...

JAL could be transferring some 744s to JALways or JAL aircraft will be operating these flights for JALways.

I believe they are doing both. 77Ws are replacing some 744s on JAL routes, 743s are being retired, 744s are flying for JALways. Natural progression.

Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

That brings up another question for me:
is QF still sending their remaining 747-300s to NRT from SYD? I remember, back in 2005, it was the only route (expect for an occasional SYD-AKL) where they used the 743. Was there a special reason for that?

The move to 744 will mean the cockpit crew will be JL and flight attendants Jalways. No Jalways 744 cockpit crews yet.

No longer. It is now done by an A333.

Will also miss seeing the irregular appearance by the quickly disappearing 747-200 that JL flew in occassionally, and 747-300 that was the most common. I saw one of these earlier this year on the 10th of March, and do occassionally see them out of my office window on climb when taking off over the Brisbane river. Will miss seeing the 742 when they eventually leave the skies.

it was JALways, but you wouldn't have known about it.
It's a similar situation to what QF operated after AO folded.
AO crew, but QF uniforms etc etc.

The B743 were moved elsewhere now. NRT SYD service is on a A333 now.

Now that JAL is OneWorld and QF is sending SkyBeds to NRT from PER/MEL/SYD (sometimes a 767 gets assigned but more often then not the schedule is nor for A333s from most of Australia to Narita on Qantas) let' s hope JAL will upgrade its products to Australia. In the past, they have advertised the new first class (we had a sample JAL F pod seat in the lobby of our office tower in Sydney for months) but have chosen to fly the antique fleet interiors. Would be a good 77W route eventually (NRT-SYD).

Service was upgraded to an A333 roughly 2 years ago... Not sure if you wanna call it an upgrade considering the A333
is configured 30J/267Y compared to 52J/398Y...

Kaohsiung operated for Japan Asia Airways
Bangkok/Denpasar/Jakarta/Sydney operated for JALways, plus Delhi from October.
Most JALways services to Guam, Honolulu and Kailua-Kona.
