Well this is interesting. DCA projected low enrollments for that base & left, yet the college they were tied in with says that they had no indication that there would be any problems with enrollment. Either way, tough break for the students.
Comments? Anybody know if there's more to this story?

I think it's tough for a flight school to be sustainable up here if it's dedicated to only flying. If you look at other flight school/universities north of the Ohio River, a lot of them have management programs also to help offset lack of flying during icing season. I was wondering how the DCA was doing in DAY for this reason. We may soon find out.

It's official. DCA at DAY is getting the axe, albeit less abruptly than EWB. We were told at a meeting this afternoon.
The base shuts down March 31st. Among the reasons DCA cited were the same enrollment issues as at New Bedford, which is fishy, as there are at least 20 new private students this quarter. They also said that "not enough hours were being flown" at the base.
Originally, the base was to close at the end of Fall Quarter, but the schools were able to reach an agreement keeping it open until March. Sinclair hopes to have their own flight school up and running by then, which is awaiting approval. The irony is that we may get much better equipment at lower rates.

They've seemed to do well ever since they opened that branch in 2004, though there are few (if any) flights on weekends. IIRC, there were about 15 students when I started there in 2005 & that number has increased steadily in recent years. There are probably 45-50 students in the program now, not including dispatch & A&P students. There are also 4 Sinclair/DCA alums that are now instructors at the base, with a 5th awaiting an interview (as she has been since May).
