Quote: FLINT (WJRT) - (09/05/07)--Flyers in Flint have a new choice for a quick getaway. Wednesday, American Eagle kicked off service between Flint and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.
The airline will fly once daily to and from Dallas/Fort Worth. Top leaders say the success of a similar Chicago flight schedule meant the expansion made sense.
Top leaders for the airport, the city, the county and in fact the region gathered to celebrate the new flight. It departs in the morning and arrives from Dallas/Fort Worth at night, but it has created a lot of buzz at Bishop International Airport.

Yes, it's one CRJ 700 daily. That surprised me. I was expecting it to be an Embraer. A morning flight FNT-DFW and an evening return.
There are also good loads on the other two new Eagle routes that started Sep 5th. DFW-ROW and XNA-DCA.

The FNT-DFW flight, departing about 7am, seems to be operating with at least a 93-95% load, sometimes 98-100%. The interesting thing is, DFW-FNT flight (arrives FNT about 9pm) seems to have about 50-80% load.
Not sure why the contrast, maybe the evening DFW-FNT flight doesnt suit peoples schedules? Personally I think the return time is excellent (9pm). Dont care for the 7am FNT-DFW though, too early for me.
I too expected this route to be EMB-145's when it was originally announced; somewhat surprinsing to see the CR7's. But, nonetheless, FNT-DFW seems to have no problem filling a CR7; the return flight could fill a 145', but isnt filling the CR7.
Maybe time will tell...we'll see. I hope their FNT-LGA service operates well (Northwest kind of went under the radar and, while I havent seen any announcements, you can already book 9E FNT-LGA in the CR2's later this year - flight times are +- 30 mins of AE's). Personally I think it'll do fine, as long as they have decent fares - heck, even with 9E on the route, Northwest may be pleasantly surprised also. They both may be able to operate FNT-LGA successfully, considering the huge capacity currently flown DTW-NYC via 5 different airlines.
Flying a plane is no diff. from riding a bicycle. Its just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. -'Airplane'

Give it time...I have no doubts it will eventually fill up. I have a feeling once word gets around they are flying DFW nonstop, it will see an increase in passengers. I'm wondering if the return flight is more geared toward o/d passengers as opposed to connecting. None the less, I think it will be successful and I wouldn't doubt if they add a second daily within a couple of years.

With American's surging popularity, I don't think there will be a problem filling the flight. I think the NW loyalists will stick with Northwest's flight and the rest will be with American.
I still can't believe the differences between FNT and TOL. Just amazing when a community embraces the services and supports them left and right. It also helps when they have a forward thinking and very proactive airport (authority) staff that gets things done. Can't say the same for TOL. FNT just has so much going for them now.

The big advantage FNT has is location. FNT is closer than DTW for many residents of DTW's northern and western suburbs, which are among the wealthiest in the Detroit area. FNT can also draw from as far away as LAN and MBS.
Because DTW is on the south side of the Detroit area, it's closer than TOL for most people in Detroit's southern suburbs, so TOL can't draw on any of the Detroit metro area population base like FNT can.
