It was a planned flight.. SYD-SIN-DXB-FRA (delayed departure ex-SYD last night).

VH-OJC is carrying a 5th pod (an extra engine) for VH-OJB, which I believe may still be stranded at FRA. I am only guessing here, but I believe with all the weight it could not make SIN-FRA nonstop, hence the need to stop at Dubai.

Hope that helps  Smile

Cheers

Good info, thanks for that. Thought they may have added a Middle East destination at last.

Have a good day!

I believe it had to make a stop because it was weight restricted, due to the fact that it was carrying a fifth engine pod and had to make a fuel stop.

How does it carry the fifth engine? Is it attached to the wing somehow as I assume it woudn't fit into the cargo space.

Qantas is easily one of the airlines that is most frequently seen doing 5th Pod flights.

Interesting enough. this photo also show VH-OJC  Smile

Thanks for the picture. It seems, the fifth engine's fan is turning (probably driven by the air flow). Is there an oil pressure system running somehow to prevent damage/wear?
