Just a quick question:I've been hearing stories about Emirates' purchase of A330's-true? Also, they have reportedly bought a 40% controlling stake in Sri Lanka's national airine, Air Lanka.I have also heard rumours that they are now flying a new route to Moscow and Helsinki-is this true?
Thanx.

Dear Sir;
As a 777 pilot for Emirates International, I can only confirm that we will very shortly be introducing the A330-200 to our present fleet.The aircraft will be configured to an FJY or JY configuration, depending on what routes they are deployed.Most of the A330's will be used on our present european routes, or any routes which are presently being served by the A310's or A300-600's, which the A330 is designed to replace.Some colleagues of mine are presently converting from A310 to A330 (via our A330 simulators).
You also asked about Emirates flying to Russia and Finland.At present, we are considering (i.e. we're not flying there yet) routes to Sheremetyevo (Moscow) and Fornebu (Helsinki).The routes are likely to be served with the A330 in a JY (business and tourist) class configuration.If the load factors are high, we might introduce the 777 onto this route.If there are any other questions on Emirates' service please don't hesitate to ask.

Emirates! Hi, glad to see you've made it to this message board also. Hey one correction I have to make about your message: The airport in Finland is not Fornebu; Fornebu is in Oslo, Norway. So are you saying that Emirates will fly to Norway or Finland? Look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Sir,
As a pilot,you may know some information
which I would like to know myself concerning your airline.Are your airline ordering the A340-600?If so, where will they fly it to?Also, how did you become a pilot with such a great airline? Why did you choose Emirates?

Thank-you for your responses;
Firstly, I apologise to all Finnish aviators (including MD-11), for the glitch in my earlier response.Emirates is presently considering a route from Dubai to Helsinki's VANTAA-(ok?),via Moscow or Kiev.And in response to Alan's question:
Yes, we have ordered the A340-600 along with Virgin and Eva Airways of Taiwan.When these arrive, we hope to utilise the equipment on long-haul services to New York (via Manchester, which we already fly to) and Los Angeles.The aircraft will also be used to supplement our 777's on busy routes such as Dubai-London and Dubai-Hong Kong. And how did I become a pilot with Emirates?-I joined the airline in January, after having flown a Tornado F-3(strike/attack role) and the Hercules for the Royal Air Force.Emirates like their employees to come from a varied background-I speak in Spanish and French fluently and am of Irish/Argentine descent,therefore Emirates took an immediate interest in me.Hope you got what you asked for!
Regards,
Alexander

Thanks, Emirates, for clearing that up. For a minute I got worried that maybe it wasn't Helsinki at all that you were considering to fly in to, but rather Oslo. Thanks for putting my fears to rest. :) I REALLY hope to see that A330 here some day.

An earlier poster said that Emirates would fly to NYC once it recieved its A340-600. This would be flown thru MAN, why isnt this presently done with a 777, or A310?

Dear Sir;
You are correct in saying that Manchester-New York is well within the 777's and A310's capabilities.The reason why we're not flying there right now, is because we are at present doing a little bit of market research, i.e. how many people will need a service to New York/LA from Dubai? We need to be able to fly with a minimum 50% load factor.So far, it seems the greatest demand is from Manchester.Emirates' directors are still uneasy about flying to the states after our our rival's (Gulf Air) poor load factors on their non-stop Abu-Dhabi-New York and Houston service, utilising A340 equipment.It is interesting to note, that while Kuwait Airways uses the A340 to New York, the flight always routes via Heathrow, otherwise they would simply be flying empty A340's!
Do you get my drift.......??
Regards,
Alexander.

A small note:

Fornebu, now closed and replaced by Gardermoen, is in Oslo Norway.

Vantaa is the name of Helsinki's airport.
