No, it will not be built in Japan (if it is built at all). You have to understand that Boeing don't manufacture everyhting themselves, but major parts are often subcontracted out. This occured on the 777 project more than on any other, with Japanese companies building many components for the wings and other parts. These are then transprted to Seatle, where final assembly takes place...

Where do people come up with such moronic topic headlines? Is everyone in this forum gunning for a job with the National Enquirer? This is getting pathetic. Jal Buys A380, 747X to be built in Japan, LH to buy A380. The list goes on ad nauseum.
Exercise your brains just a little and this is what you'll come up with:
1. 747X WING to be built in Japan
2. LH rumored to buy A380 in FI
3. JAL and A380? Heard from a drunk Japanese sarariman that works for the Nishei Shinbum in the smoking lounge in Changi.
If you people need attention, step out on a ledge.

Well I think Japanese participation started with the 767 - this was mentioned on ANA's Japanese fleet page, but without much detail.
If my memory serves me right, Fuji Heavy Industries (who makes, wa wa, Subaru cars) made landing gears for the 777, and they're on board again for the 747X.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (who's not really related to Mitsubishi Motors) will be responsible for 1/4 the total cost of developing the 747X.

Yes I know Japan makes parts for Boeing. I thought it was kinda funny that Kevin made it sound like they made the whole thing in Japan.

Stratifier,
How can you say Mitsubishi is "not really" related to Mitsubishi Motors, yet say Fuji builds Subaru cars? Yes, Fuji owns Subaru, and it was a recent purchase, as Subaru was going broke (withing the past decade or so I believe), so it's just a division of Fuji. Also, Mitsubishi is probably MORE related to their car making business than Fuji is to theirs, but simply because any of these companies have car division, doesn't mean they cant have aerospace divisions. I'm not saying you said that last part, just making a statement.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Motors are simply licensees of the Mitsubishi name. They aren't related in a corporate fashion. Fuji and Subaru are, since one owns the other.
