Hi. I will visit Cambodia next month and I'll make a flight from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. According to Amadeus, only Siem Reap Airways, Bangkok Airways with their ATR-72 are flying that ropute. I would prefer to fly with a good old aircraft. Cambodian Airlines websites are old and it's not possible to have current informations.
Does someone could tell me if An-24,Y-7 flights are still operated? What about Royal Khmer 732 or 727?
Thanks for your help.

According to Airwise's flight schedule http://travel.airwise.com/schedules/index.html there is a flight on PMT Air (IATA U4) flying between these two cities and they fly AN4 aircraft. By the looks of the schedules it operates twice a week, I put in 4th Oct out and it brought the flight up. Not sure how up to date their website is but the web address is http://www.pmtair.com

Thanks for your help but unfortunatly, it seems PMT doen't operates domestic flights anymore.
I sent them a mail and here is the answer :
Good afternoon, Mr. Regis Sibille,
Unfortunately, at the moment we don't have flights to from Siem Reap to
Sihanoukville.
At present our flight schedule is as follows: we have 3 international
flights from Siem Reap to Seoul (Korea), to Pusan (Korea) and to Hanoi
(Vietnam) and from these cities back to Siem Reap.
Booking via the Internet on our website is also avaiable for these routes. You can book
tickets in advance and pay for them at the airport right before the
departure.
Thank you for your interest in our company.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Quoting Thai744 (Reply 2): Personally, I'd rather the safety record of Bangkok Airways rather than some clapped-out, poorly maintained Khmer airline.

Why not take the bus? It would be the adventure of a lifetime. You'd get to mingle with the locals and really take in the culture.

Yep, there are two better way to get to Siem Reap. Either you take the bus which takes 4-6 hours depending on season or you take the boat which also takes 4hours plus anything between 20 and 60 minutes on the back of a motorbike from the bank of the Tonle Sap lake to Siem Reap.
The buses I know are more aimed at budget-tourist and cost about 5$. Passengers are backpackers and middle class locals having fun with Cambodian style karaoke. The boat is about 15$, but finally worth the money. I took the boat one-way and then the bus back to Phnom Phenh, which I think was really the best thing to do. I really recommend not to waste time on airplanes when you are in Cambodia. It's one of the most wonderful and hospitable place I have ever been to.
Boat and bus tickets can usually be obtained from your guesthouse or hotel.

I wondered the same last year when I visited Cambodia and I flew PMT An-24 out and Siem Reap-Bangkok Airways ATR back. The An-24 crashed since and PMT isn´t flying domestic anymore.
Pnohm Penh Airways which had some very rare Y-7s ceased in 2005 or so, and these aircraft are now parked-derelict at Pnomh Penh airport.
Royal Khmer isnt flying domestic I believe, I couldnt manage at least to get a ride on their 732s.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

yeah i took the boat both ways and it was fun!!!! Its amazing to be on a river and then soon enough you are in a massive lake where you can not see the shore on either side. On our way back down we actually met another small boat and someone got off onto it. How funny
I flew Bangkok airways on a boeing 717 from Bangkok to KO Samui. Great service for such a little airline. I'm sure it would be the same on the Siem Reap > Phnom Penh route!!!
