Barcelona is extremely underserved by long haul flights. There is a need for non-stop services to Latin America and North America. Connecting via Madrid it´s not a obligation for Barcelona tourists and passengers.

I have to agree with you!! Several Brazilians traveling out to Spain have Barcelona as there priority city.
It would be nice to see some flights between Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro. Maybe non-stop operated by Iberia. They´ve once flew BCN-MAD-GRU but I think it was dropped in 98.
