Here at MHT the word relayed to me through my Yahoo Group is that Frontier Airlines is perhaps looking to come back to either Boston proper, or perhaps here to Manchester. I'm trying to reconstruct what prompted Frontier to leave Logan in the first place, and would that preclude them from coming back to an airport they once gave up on?

Basically - 9/11 and the aftermath, and the closure of Terminal A.
Before 9/11, Frontier's BOS service was doing pretty well. They had 2 x daily and there was talk of a 3rd frequency.
Then 9/11 happened, and traffic fell of a cliff. Frontier loads DEN-BOS were down to less than 30%.
At about that time, Terminal A was closed for remodelling, and Frontier had no gate. Massport didn't help - they suggested MHT or PVD, which Frontier did not want to do, believing BOS would recover.
They found a gate with US Airways, but at a very high rate. This, together with the poor loads, led to the cancellation of the service.
Since then, of course, JetBlue has started DEN-BOS. Would Frontier go back, in spite of that? Anything is possible, but I have some doubts.
BDL has worked extremely well for Frontier, and I would guess - it is only a guess - they would put in a 2nd frequency DEN-BDL first.

You would think that after essentially being told to go pound sand by Massport, Frontier would only come back to the Boston area via either MHT or PVD. If they come back to Logan, it'll reinforce that Massport can just continue being Massport with their arrogance (which may have subsided somewhat--or not--depending on who you talk to).

I think that what happened with Massport is certainly an issue. Or - it was.
There were stories - I can't confirm them - that a couple of years ago, Massport tried to "make nice" with Frontier again.

This is purely a rumor, but I have heard that MHT management would like to land some West Coast routes or possibly a DEN route. It would not surprise me that they are talking to UA or F9 about this possibility.
And remember, MHT has one unused gate at the moment. Does PVD have room to expand?

would a regional jet have the range to serve a DEN- PVD or MHT? Definitely would like to see additional or new service from MHT! Does anyone know how WN'S new MHT-PHX service is doing? Has it had any affect on the MHT-LAS route?

I hope F9 returns to BOS, it'll be nice to have more choice out of BOS.

I think so, especally because F9 has a good connecting network(as long as they schedule the flights so they can), while B6 aimed at the local traffic.

That was when B37/B38 were used by HP. They could use either of those two gates if they returned, or if Massport gave them a good deal on the vacant A gate.
