Apparantely and according to inner sources, Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport that was supposed to open later this year, has been delayed till summer of 2008 because it is linked to a very big announcement to be made at the Dubai Air Show?
No one is speaking but the official word will be out soon... any speculations? I mean T3 is almost ready and a friend of mine who works on the construction site told me it will be ready in October/November! So why this delay or more like postponing? What is this big announcement? Could it be they want to launch the A380 flights with the T3?
Well Emirates are hiring left right and center ground staff for T3. They need to hire around 3000 by May 2008

The terminal is far from being ready at the moment. When is the last time you drove down airport road ?? Last time i saw it from airside there is still a big hole in the side where they are using cranes to lift equipment inside.
OK, the outside shell is nearing completion but there is alot of work still to be done on the interior to get things up and running and to the infrastructure outside.
I would like to think they wouldnt delay the opening of the much needed terminal for a stupid reason because the existing terminal is bursting at the seams as it is and so many flights departing from remote stand.

This is the thing the caused the delay. The contractor asked to postponed the completion date by six months, As said that the important work is just started, the big challenge is the electromechanical work. The civil aviation authority is searching for the latest technology to be applied in terminal 3.
As i was told by one of the projects managers in T3, that the Terminal will be ready by 1-7-2008.

I haven't been to DXB for a while. Is the new concourse in operation? It looked like it was near completion last I looked. That should give quite a significant increase in capacity (at least airside). T3 I remember is a lot smaller.
BTW does anyone have a diagram or rendering of what DXB would look like after expansion projects are complete. The corridor between the new concourse and T3 must be fairly tight.
