There has been some great news for my home airport within the last couple of days:

1. Continental Airlines announced the return of service to LAN with 3 daily flights starting next spring

2. The airport will receive funding from the federal government in a transportation funding bill which will increase the runway length to 8500 ft. This will help in attracting new cargo carriers (and maybe more pax carriers.)
* Depending on the amount, I am hoping that they will begin much needed terminal improvements

3. Allegiant will reinstate the PIE flights within the next month or so

4. The airport is in talks with Allegiant to start flights to Mexico (if any, probably CUN, with pre-clearence, as LAN doesn't have an FIS facilities

5. Allegiant numbers were up 5% in August from the same time last year. Hopefully news like this will lead G4 to open up FLL and IWA/AZA service next year.

There is a lot great things happening at Capital City Airport, and it lwill be fun to see how all this impacts service at the airport and maybe attracting new service.

There hasn't been a lot of good things happening at LAN over the last couple of years besides the fact that G4 has come in and been a huge success, so it is nice to see new funding and new CO service.

Huh? CUN? Allegiant doesn't fly to CUN. LAN might get flights to any of the focus cities G4 has, but CUN isn't one of them.

I don't know, there was an interview with the Executive Director of the Airport and he said they were in talks with Allegiant to bring flights to Mexico. And CUN would probably be one of the top Mexican destinations.

Can you post a link? Your airport director is smoking something. G4 is busy opening two new focus cities, and they're going to start LAN-CUN? Doesn't make sense. I'm not doubting you, it just isn't logical, and I'd love to see the director actually saying that, because it would prove again why political appointees shouldnt run airports!

That's just bizarre. I wish you luck, but I just dont know why G4 would do it! According to the great circle mapper, its 1504nm. So not only is outside of Allegiant's business model, its also a long flight that G4 will have a hard time making money on because of fuel costs.

I mean, I am not counting on it, but there is a HUGE base (especially around Spring Break) for air travel to CUN, and NW won't fly it. So if G4 could price it right, and have good timings, they could make a killing. LAN is about 10 minutes from Michigan State, and people love flying non-stop to destinations sunny destinations, that is why Allegiant has been, and will continue to be such a success.

I am still thinking we will see Allegiant announce Fort Lauderdale within the next couple of months to get ready for Spring Break and cruise traffic from here. I am really suprised though that Lansing wasn't a destination for the Arizona service. A LOT of snowbirds in Michigan that head out west.
