There has been some recent speculation in the local papers of PanAm coming to Detroit City Airport.

What kind of operation is the new PanAm? Customer service, plane type, cities served, etc.

Thanks in advance

PAN AM 3 Flies to
Portsmouth NH
Pittsburg PA
Allentown PA
Sanford in Orlando
Gary, Indiana
Bangor Mane
ST Louis Mid America
As well as they do charters
They've already been chartered by The Boston Red Sox.
The team flew one of the 727s.

They fly 8 727-200 with winglets and They fly quite a few Jetstream 31a along with some other smaller aircraft.

PA 3 mainly fly to underserved and out of the way airports that are close to major cities and that are easyly accessible and that have little check in lines, free parking close to the airport or close to it. They served baked goods and complemenatary drinks. The owners name is David Fink who owns Guliford Freight RailRoad which is a freight carrier in New England.

For more info call 1-800-FLY-PANAM
or visit the website

I hope they can come to Trenton, NJ if they really want to serve the NYC and NJ area pretty well. When PA 3 goes westward as they eventually will do then I hope that they can go to Burbank and Oakland in CA.

PS Flying seasonal service to Cancun wouldn't hurt. They can do what TWA did and sell the tickets to travel agents which they will sell to customers and then you make alot of cash.

Can anyone give an indication on how Pan Am 3 is doing. I have read conflicting reports over various threads - that they are doing well and that they are doing badly. Can anyone give a better indication. Much appreciated.

I have talked to a Supervisor on the phone at PA headquarters at Portsmouth as well as visiting the Allentown area and the empoyees couldn't be any happier. They're doing fine at the airports they're in. In some cases like Midamerica. They're pretty much the only game in town or the biggest carrier there. They operate out of the airports that the big carriers wouldn't even think of serving. So PA has very little or no threat to anyone of th big guys. Other than PA who else flies from Gary to Sanford or Pittsburg to Portsmouth?

I understood the passenger side was not too busy in general, 20-30 people off peak and busier at peak. I was told they were doing well on the freight side though which was keeping them going.

727S to DET? I doubt that. 737s yes, maybe. I would think FNT,MBS,LAN or GRR would be better than DET.

Ahh geez people...what happened to Pan Am flying Portsmouth-Pookaboo-Tokyo with A340's 15 times a day?

Or with a mix of C130s and 747-400s between LAX and ONT. That would work wouldnt it Matt. Why you got to be a smart ass?

Maybe if some of the 13 year olds around here would come to understand the concept of a niche market, there'd be no need to poke fun at their moronic "why doesn't Pan Am buy brand-new 747-400s and fly them from Portsmouth to Tokyo?" posts.

Actually, it was meant as a general comment spurred by both your and Matt D's remarks.

FYI:

DET will see J31 service from Pan Am. They can't fly their 727's in there since the runways are too short. Last summer, they operated some flights on behalf of Pro Air, which was based at DET, but they had to depart/arrive at DTW and then have the passengers bussed to/from DET.
