What Routes For NW A332/ A333?

A quick check on airfleets.net for Northwest revealed to me that they now have 19 A330-300 and 11 A330-200 aircraft in their fleet.

I can't seem to come up with enough routes that all those 300's could be flying on . . .

From looking at the timetable I found out that at least there is

DTW-AMS 4 Daily on A330-300
DTW-CDG 1 Daily on A330-300
DTW-FRA 1 Daily on A330-300
DTW-LGW 1 Daily on A330-300

MSP-AMS 3 Daily on A330-300
MSP-LGW 1 Daily on A330-300

AMS-BOS 1 Daily on A330-300

But I still think I'm missing some, unless they have a lot of 300's sitting around as spares or use them on Pacific routes.

And if anyone knows what routes the 200's fly on, I know they do AMS - BOM/SEA/MEM and NRT - PDX/SEA. What are the others?

I saw the 20th 330-300 operating flight #809 to HNL yesterday the 23rd.

The following are current 330 routes:

332 -

1 - SEA-NRT-SEL
2 - SEL-NRT-SEA
3 - PDX-NRT-SIN
4 - SIN-NRT-PDX
5 - SFO-NRT-BKK
6 - BKK-NRT-SFO
7 - NRT-PEK-NRT
8 - SEA-AMS-BOM
9 - BOM-AMS-SEA
10 -MEM-AMS-MEM
11 - spare - operates as the 2nd NRT-SEA-NRT section twice a week

333 -

1 - DTW-AMS-DTW
2 - DTW-AMS-DTW
3 - DTW-AMS-DTW
4 - DTW-AMS-DTW
5 - DTW-CDG-DTW
6 - DTW-LGW-DTW
7 - DTW-FRA-DTW
8 - BOS-AMS-BOS
9 - MSP-LGW-MSP
10 -MSP-AMS-MSP
11 -MSP-AMS-MSP
12 -MSP-AMS-MSP - operates EWR-AMS-EWR from 1/6-3/16
13 -MSP-HNL-KIX
14 -KIX-HNL-MSP
15- HNL-NRT-HNL
16- NRT-SPN-NRT
17- spare NRT-GUM-NRT - effective 9/28
18- spare SEA-HNL-SEA - effective 11/4

The actual routings of individual a/c may change, I listed them this way for ease of comprehension. It appears there is lots of slack in the 333 schedule at this point. In March/April when the spring schedule starts, at this point it appears that 19 are scheduled leaving 2 spares. IMO there will be a new route announcement with a 333 (hoping for MSP-CDG) leaving one spare for the summer.

OK, well that pretty much perfectly answers my question, and like I thought, those extra 300's were indeed flying aorund the Pacific.

Yup, the last of the 333 deliveries have been going to the Pacific network. Since the 742 has been retired from passenger service something was needed for replacement for the NRT-GUM/SPN beach markets. Also, HNL-KIX and one of the HNL-NRT flights have been downgaged from 744s to the 333s. Interesting, in November one of the SEA-HNL 753 flights is being upgaged to the 333! When this starts, HN-KIX is retimed and therefore HNL-NRT/KIX/SEA can be juggled using 3 aircraft as opposed to KIX being left to be operated by only the MSP inbound into HNL.

To me, the biggest questions are... where will the last remaining 333s fly to? And... where are all the 744s going to go now that is seems NWA got snubbed for the latest China route authorities. I was hoping for a refurb, but it seems that isn't even going to happen. I digress... after all this is a thread about the beautiful 330s!

They don't have enough planes IMO, I wish they would re-introduce FCO and start the extra India route they were supposed to operate before pulling it the day before it started and starting the MAD service that they had also planned.

I agree... they have enough planes to fly the schedule as I've outlined above, but they could use more. That was all based on what we can view in todays schedule. This could obviously change after the spring schedule are confirmed and new routes, if any are announced. Unfortunately MSP and DTW will never be EWR/JFK and therefore we will not see NWA a big playa in the trans atlantic like DL and CO are. Instead JVs will be used and they'll fill in the niche markets from their strong cities with their own metal. As always, the bean counters and analysts know what works financially and realistically for them and those of us on the outside can only speculate.

There is only one more remaining on order and it will be delivered later this year. So I would guess that most will operate the current routes.

Unless they plan on operating with 2 spares, I agree the routes will be status quo and the ones that have been announced. I still believe one of the routes in the fall announcement for new service will include a 333 route in addition to the 757A routes.

DTW-FRA goes to 2 daily with A-333 equipment, effective 28 March 2008.
