JetBlue To Announce MCO-BUF/ROC Soon

While searching flights for a friend of mine, I found the following loaded into jetblue.com:

Flight 662 MCO-BUF 1220-1500
Flight 663 BUF-MCO 1540-1830

Flight 673 ROC-MCO 0800-1050
Flight 674 MCO-ROC 1120-1400

Looks like they both start on or around November 16.

Good news for ROC. AirTran's flights for 11/16, the only other nonstop flights on the city-pair so far, are:

585 ROC-MCO 1300--1538
588 MCO-ROC 1711--1946

That means at least two daily nonstop flights on ROC-MCO this winter into February and three in March; I ran Feb. 28, March 15 and March 28, and found AirTran running two daily ROC-MCO nonstops on those dates, and B6 running one.

I'd bet the market will support both the B6 and FL ROC-MCO flights. Both carriers are well-established in Rochester, and the smaller ALB market supports three daily nonstops to MCO on WN. Anyone know what a/c JetBlue will use for the ROC-MCO route?

I think Jetblue and Airtran should be able to coexist on this market with 2 round trips total. For BUF however this will make 5 non stop flights total with three on Southwest and 1 on Airtran. I was expecting FLL from ROC first since Airtran only has sporadic seasonal flights on this route.

Thats great more NewYork. I was on the first flight from MCO-SWF December 19th 2006 great flight my first time getting a greeting with fire trucks. B6 is doing great things. Just like I said on my thread why dont they make MCO a hub they have soooo mny flights out of it they added SWF, WHITEPLAINS i forgot the code for it, ROC, and BUF. Is that all the new cities they have added in the past couple years from MCO to the NY area. If there are more cities please correct me.

I agree. It has long seemed odd to me that JetBlue, with its (AFAIK still) lower CASM than AirTran, didn't make more of a push on ROC-Florida sooner. According to MAH4656, FL's ROC-FLL will be daily this winter instead of Saturday-only. This makes me wonder if JetBlue might not be as confident about a nonstop. Though I think they have reason to be--DOT says that ROC-FLL in 1st quarter 2007 was 268 daily pax ( http://ostpxweb.dot.gov/aviation/domfares/tab6071.txt ) so would think both carriers could run a daily on their smallest a/c. ROC-MCO for the same period is 587, which suggests that the two carriers should coexist easily on that route. (BUF-MCO was 1205, so five dailies should do fine.)

MCO-PWM is also slated to being - but in January.

Flight 1149 MCO-PWM 1225-1540
Flight 1150 PWM-MCO 1400-1720

Looks like this will be on the E190 while the ROC and BUF flights will be on the A320.

Overall, it's good to see that JetBlue is still committed to the ROC market - it hasn't seen expansion since its first flight! It also looks like JetBlue isn't afraid to butt heads with FL (ROC/BUF/PWM) and WN (BUF).

In a way, yes. Plus, AA does not have the right aircraft to launch more Miami-New York routes. The ERJs are too small, they don't fly CR7s to Miami, and the 738s are just a little to big (they could fill them, but it really isn't the best aircraft to use on these routes).

Also, jetBlue's new Orlando routes are squarely aimed at AirTran.

CuriousFlyer--doesn't Canada have some really brutal taxes on transborder flights? I'm thinking I've read in other threads that the taxes have helped keep American LCC's wary of flying transborder.

As I mentioned in another recent thread, more casualties of AA's scope clause (and perhaps of waiting out the TWA flight attendant agreement?). Lots of routes out there that could use 70-100 seat a/c.

I was surprised too, however B6 will be operating this flight for 6 months which is quite a long time for a seasonal flight isn't it? Airtran usually only operates ROC-FLL 2 or 3 months at the most. Maybe B6 only operating this flight seasonally will make both airlines successfully on this route.

How is MCO becoming a "small hub"? There are absolutely no connection possibilities outside of a handful to Puerto Rico. This is just a build-up of flights that overfly JFK and go straight to Orlando (and Ft. Lauderdale). This will continue, but in no way, shape or form will Orlando (or Fort Lauderdale) become a jetBlue "hub".

Three cities at once probably counts as something big, compared to the smaller press releases before.

And as far as JetBlue's "hubs" (or rather, focus cites) go, I'd say MCO counts. FLL is officially a focus city, as is OAK, and they both have less in the way of connecting opportunities. MCO has more flights than a number of the other focus cities, which shows that they indeed have a focus there.
I'm not sure what the definition of a focus city is...whether it has to do with crew and equipent basing, or something else...but I wouldn't be at all surprised if MCO picked up that title soon.

Well maybe not a hub but a definite focus city they have facilities and new gates comming online which should add some new routes including the ones comming online soon B6 has their eyes on MCO which shows from the new routes announced
