I know that there has been a lot of postings on environmental isues recently and I have done a search but not come up with anything, so please ignore this if it has been discussed.

I know that Virgin was conducting a series of tests at various airports, where they were towed to the runway and only started their engines when they were ready for take off. I believe that JFK wa one of them.

With so much congestion at JFK and excessive waiting times while taxiing to the runway, or waiting for an available gate, Virgins idea seems like an extremely logical one. There would be a huge saving in both jetfuel and the CO2 emissions.

Have any other airlines considered this policy? Should NYC airports make it a standard procedure?

Many thanks!
