As the orders roll in and the discussions get rabid, what are we going to nickname the A380 when she / he (just being politically correct) takes to the skies?

Any suggestions?

The levianthenth (sp) of the skies?

"Whale" is what comes to my mind whwn looking at pictures of the A380. Or "Mammoth" (The bigger version of the "Jumbo" elephant).

Well the big Airbus that carries the fuselages and wings around Europe is called "Beluga" and since I think the A380 looks like another whale, I think we should call it "Moby"

How about the
"omigawddisthatgiantthinggoingtobeabletogetofftheground"?

Seriously, I look forward to the A380. I especially like the way VS in particular plans to include new amenities for passengers instead of just more seats.

"Big Bird" - because that's what it is when comparing it to the rest.

There is no reason for great fuzz over that bird. It is after all only a new airliner type which happens to be roughly 30% larger than another large airliner which flew 36 years before Big Bird takes off from the ground first time.

And it has the size which its builder thinks will fit the market between 2006 and 2050. If the market had demanded a 1200 pax plane, then its builder would have made that instead, with eight engines instead of four. As for now it is just the big bird.

Best regards, Preben Norholm

To me it is the next in the line of plastic names(Common name for airbus at Air Canada)......

A319 - Microplastic
A320- Miniplastic
A321 - Plastic
A330 - Superplastic
A340 - Superduperplastic
A380 - MEGAplastic

That was not a shot at Airbus or it's products...it is a nickname that all busses have, and is very common a many Air Canada employees.

No really obvious proposals so far, so I guess that the nickname, which has often been used by the press during the last year or so, will catch on further: Mega Jet.
Cheers, Preben
