I have an unusal friend who would like to know the following. If you flew scheduled westbound from LHR leaving at 09:00 on a Monday, and continued onwards until arriving back at LHR, what time and day would you complete your journey. This should include any approximate transfer times. All flights should be commercially available.

The fastest routing I could find would return him to LHR at 5:05 AM Wednesday morning. It's the earliest arrival into Heathrow. He could depart even later than 9 AM and still arrive back at Heathrow by 5:05 AM. One possible routing is listed below.

Well I don't know if it is the quickest, but if you truely want a Round the World (RTW) experience (crossing the equator) and on one airline then you have to choose Air New Zealand... they are the only airline in the world to offer this service (SQ comes close but operates from 2 different airports in New York and doesn't go as far).
You can catch NZ1 from LHR-LAX transit for an hour or so then continue on NZ1 down to AKL.
After a day in AKL you can hop on NZ39 AKL-HKG, transit HKG then continue on NZ39 up to LHR.
That way you have travelled completely around the world having crossed the equator twice.
So leave on Monday afternoon and arrive back in London on Friday afternoon having travelled 20545nm.
