The Boeing B747 SP is quite rare at most airports. But not in Geneva Switzerland ! On September the 5th 3 B747 SPs were parked alongside each other for 30 minutes. Firstly there was the Oman Royal Flight Boeing 747SP A4O-SP, the Dubai Air Wing Boeing 747SP A6-SMR (this plane nearly lives in GVA. Nearly everytime I go to GVA I see it) and the Iran Air Boeing 747SP EP-IAA (this was a schedule flight)

Another quite nice picture from August is this Saudia 747 SP

Way cool, I think I've seen one SP in my entire life. To have three at once is pretty neat. Can anyone think of a larger gathering of SP's. Ramp shots at Boeing or all of the same airline don't count.

Actually, around circa 1986-1988, chances would have been good for seeing 747SP's of UA, CI and QF at SFO, using the older "Rotunda" International Terminal on the south side of the airport.
Gawd, how times have changed! The current International Terminal at SFO totally dwarfs that "Rotunda" terminal, which is now being used by WN and will be torn down fairly soon.

I love the 747SP...it's so cute!
It looks awesome in the Saudia-c/s...must be the most handsome SP...right?
Somebody who knows how long it will be flying?
Is it a frequent visitor to GVA??
I have only seen two airlines operating the 747SP...these are Iran Air and Air China. Iran Air has scheduled services to CPH with almost always 747SP.
The Air China 747SP I only saw once : (
By the way who many airlines/governments operate the 747SP nowadays??
Iran Air
Saudi Arabian
Qantas
Syrian Arab Airlines
South African
Air Namibia
These are what I know...some more maybe?

Lovely pictures indeed. My only 747 flight thus far was in fact on an SP of United in 1993 from MIA to IAD; the flight was continuing to CDG and GVA. It was quite comfortable and flew well but its age was evident from the interior and the antiquated IFE (compared to the 757 I had flown earlier that day). Also, its a/c was unable to cope with the heat at IAD when we landed. It was 100F or 38C on that day.
The SP is a lovely bird and I am glad that I have actually flown in one. A few SP's of Pan Am have visited POS in the past.

The -SP is a great aircraft. Those RR engines on the Qf ones just top it off! I have seen both QF ones together when i was in CNS once, pity i dont have a large zoom for the camera

I saw a South African SP in BKK just a few days back - It looked stunning. I didn't know they still operated those.

WOW!!! What brilliant photos! I love the Saudia plane the best - looks great in that livery!!! I've unfortunately never flown the 747SP before - great pity! I suppose I better make a trip to BKK sometime soon because that's where at least one of them operates to.

Hi Jeremiah
These are really great pictures. But I have perhaps an other taste than most other people. I find the 747sp one of the most ugly airliners. I don't like these fat sausages, like for example the 777-200 too. The 777-300 perhaps looks better because it is longer.

I've flown on the SP twice, both times with United in the early 90's. Very pleasant flights!
BTW, I think the Saudia SP is reserved for the Royal family, and is not in regular commercial service.

I love this aircraft!
I have been lucky enough to fly on it quite a few times.
Untill the early 90's Luxair had leased one from SAA-SAL
for the twice weakly JNB-Luxemburg route. They actually created a subsidiary called Luxavia and painted the aircraft in Luxair colours with "Luxavia" replacing "Luxair". This operation was quite profitable with high load factors because the tickets were cheaper than SABENA's offer on the BRU-JNB route. I guess the operation ended because of increasing competition from Europe to JNB.

BIG QUESTION:::::
Why do I see so many Middle Eastern airlines with 747SP's? I know others have it...but you have to acknowledge the concentration. Infact Iraq was recently gifted a 747SP to rebuild it's crippled flag carrier. Any answers, opinions?
