Is there actually more room for them over on A? It is probably a move to get WN into 1 terminal as I would assume that WN would be taking over those 4 gates. Who else is in A at PHL it has been a while since I have been over to that side as all of my time is spent in the lovely F area.

From what I saw of the new DL counters in A. Progress is very slow and they were no where near done about 2 weeks ago.

This has been discussed somewhere on these boards

The airport wants to move DL to A because they will begin construction on E in which a hammerhead will be added. During the construction WN will have to vacate at least 3 of their current gates. So to make room for them the airport is moving DL out.

A-east is somewhat congested with AA, JM, U5, and overflow US TA arrivals. US is up in arms about the move because they say they need the gates in A-east to continue TA growth. While the claim is true considering AF, LH, and BA now all use A-west the one argument i have is that at least half of US' TA ops are seasonal, so during the off season those A gates would sit rather idle.

****Update....the PHL website lists JM and F9 using A-15 and A-14 respectively in A-west, not sure how accurate these are.

So that leaves AA, YX, U5 and overflow US TA arrivals for A-east

DL is going to A East, the "original" A (A-West, gates A14-26, is the new international terminal, by far the nicest in the airport). I would expect DL to wind up at the end of the terminal, which is a rounded end comprising roughly gates A6-13, but I'm not certain. These are currently common use gates, and US uses them frequently as overflow for international service from A-West. US was opposed to the DL move as this might require them to use mobile lounges for some international flights next summer. AA, USA3000 and some charters also operate out of A-East. BA recently moved over to A-West, where AF and LH already were.

They are vacating E in part due to the pending construction in the terminal to give it a hammerhead-shaped extension similar to D. This will temporarily reduce the number of gates in the terminal hence the move. AFAIK NW and WN will stay put in E. The construction currently going on between D and E is to create an expanded and unified security checkpoint, which should substantially improve the security lines at both terminals and connect E to the rest of the airport behind security, which not only allows folks in E to wander over to the other stores and B-C food court but will also allow connections and gate changes for WN, which uses D1-4 as well as much of E. Currently you have to reclear security to go between terminals, and E is the only "security island" in the airport.

Hi folks,

My mom and sister are flying into PHL the Oct 18, returning the 21st.

2 questions - Will they be flying out of Concourse A? And will they have any problems since DL will have just moved in?

Glad to hear DL's getting these gates. E was just damn ugly.

Ok.. Yes, DL is moving to A-East. Gates A 12, 13 and 10. (One will be common use). There is no exact move date yet. Dl would like it to be withing two weeks, however the airport has final say, and at this point they will not issue an exact date. (A tenant advisory will go out with a two wk notice of move)

In A-East AA has gates A3, 7, 9 and limited use of A-11 which YX uses in the AM, until US uses it for an international flt. AA also uses whatever common use gates in A-East that are available. USA 3000 uses gate A-2.
In the ticketing lobby for A-East the airlines are AA, YX, U5, F9 and JM. DL will be coming soon.

JM and F9 use A-West gates.

A-East will be crowded when DL comes down.

This may be a good move for us DL flyers, especially with the horribly congested security lines at the entrance to E. If it was not for the FF line last week I might have missed my flight ..

What will become of the Delta Crown Room?

I love to fly, and it shows!

That is a good point... Since the CRC is outside of security - it could still be used, but not very convenient in this way.

There may be room in A for a new lounge, but that would be a disadvantage to set something like that up - but if is after security - that would be cool.

I recall reading on these boards, DL would move into space where BA used to (or still does) have a lounge.

It would be airside, but larger.

I just saw a thread over on flyertalk about the move and someone stated that a DL CRC employee told the poster's wife that the first day of OPS from "A" concourse will be Thursday, Oct. 18th.

The original plan was for DL to convert the old BA club downstairs in A-East into a Crown Room. However I understand the airport recently gave that space to the USO for a new facility. If that's the case, DL will have to do something different. Obviously the "E" club won't work for an airline in "A". Maybe DL and AF will develop a Skyteam facility in "A". BA has already opened impressive new First and Executive Class Lounges in A-West.
