Any updates on Southwest's new LAS crew base? I thought it was supposed to open around October.

It is up and running! We are only using I believe 9 of the overnighting aircraft ( I know we have MANY more than that)....but right now the base is crewed for 9 of the aircraft which means the base is still an overnight for the rest of the bases. As far as I know the base successfully opened Oct. 1st. The only glitch I know of is that the LAS airport authority is not allowing crew-members to cut to the front of the security lines, we do have a separate line (of some sort) but not a dedicated lane....which is INSANE!!!!!!!

i really don't think there really isnt any room to offer an employee's line only.... esp during the rush hours..

LAS airport authority

They are miserable when it comes to taking care of crewmembers. When I lived in Las Vegas the rules constantly changed on when/who could and couldn't use the so-called employee line. The whole thing is a joke. Since the airport is county owned and operated the best thing you can do is complain to your county commissioners. They understand the economic impact of having a crew base at McCarran and are likely to be more receptive to your concerns and can hopefully more persuasively pass them along to the airport authority. It's also adviseable to write directly to the person in charge (I don't know who it is these days but it can be found on McCarren's website). Remind them of your role/position within the airport community and why a dedicated line is important. Also, I always found it enjoyable to remind them it was my tax dollars and the passengers I serve paying their salary.

Good luck with it. Also, is McCarran allowing newly based crewmembers there to park at the zero level lot (either in or out of the garage) or are they having to park at the econo lot and pay reduced daily parking? I was one of the lucky ones to get a zero level lot pass, but a friend of mine who moved to Vegas later could not. She's only eligible for half price econo lot parking. But then again, neither one of us were "based" there, we commuted from there.
