Long Transit In IST On TK: Can I Leave Airport?

Hi i am looking into booking a flight from london to elazig, and have found some good tickets with long transit times, so my question is- can i leave the airport and head into istanbul during the transit? I am flying into IST from LHR on the inbound and then on to Elazig, and the reverse on return.

Yes u can.You will have cleared custom and immigration on your arrival.But beware of the rush hour in Istanbul.

I don't think it is a problem.
Depending on what time of the day, and how long, you might make good use of this time. Given that info I might have some suggestions.
You have to clear immigration and customs at IST anyways.
