.... and I liked it!
Flew LH483 EWR-FRA on 10/04

Crew came up while I was waiting for boarding, glanced outside the window and sighed "Kilo Delta ... with PTV  Sad "
Large screen, many movies to choose from, several TV programs (comedy, reports, ....) plenty of Music, inflight map ... a whole new LH experience!

I had the touchscreen one (A346 is supposed to be the one with remote control) and the FAs actually preferred the touchscreen version .. so do I: No hassle with cables and bulky remotes, cleaning the screens is a single second wipe, whereas removing stains from all the greasy remotes can cost hours.

good step LH  Smile

touch screens have their disadvantages. Put a kid in front of one and they'll bug the person in front of them the whole flight by pushing on the seat.

And stupid people to exert odd amounts of pressure on touch-screens. Remotes are hard(er) to break.

Just one A333 and one A346 right now. They're both test aircraft, each with a different IFE system. Once the system is chosen, installation will begin in November and should be completed on the A333s, A343s (I think), and A346s by April. Also, the 9 new aircraft coming from Airbus will have them already installed.

About 10 years too late... but better late than never, I guess...

I wonder what took LH (such a premium carrier) that long to decide on the PTVs? All this while, they were competing directly with the likes of SQ/CX et all.

Is there any news about which one seems the better system and which one they will go for in the future? Cheers!

Why would the crew dislike the plane for having PTVs?

Looking at the results of LH in the past, I think they did pretty well without putting PTV in economy class. Besides I personally prefer having no PTV and no "entertainment system" box limiting my legroom....so from my personal point of view they could have waited another 10 years  Wink

maybe they are having some teething problems . If so I imagine that the crews have found out pretty quickly that the only thing which makes pax grumpier than no PTV is having a PTV in front of them which doesn't work while all the other pax are enjoying theirs .

Should be 12: 7 A346 and 5 A333.

I may beg to ask concerning the box's location. To me that box cutting off more than half my legroom is the thing that would kill any IFE for me, no matter how advanced it is.

They installed an IFE system a couple of years back in a few aircraft, but from the beginning it was plagued with technical problems and never worked properly. After some time, LH's management had enough and decided to remove it, and have sticked to a no-IFE policy since. This is a new try, and i hope it works out for them.

This horse has been beaten to death but basically it boild down to the fact that for LH's customer base, IFE is not a deciding factor when people buy and airplane ticket (except for some a.netters), and their financial results over the last 10 years proves that. I have to agree with them. Over the last 10 years, 9 out of 10 times I chose LH.
