I have just received an E mail from AF inviting me to participate in the selection for passengers on a joint Airbus/Air France 380 flight from CDG to Montreal. Departure at 11h00 on 12 November from CDG. The return is by a normal flight leaving Montreal on 14 November. They say that only 100 places are available, so there will be only 50 winners (since each winner can be accompanied by someone).

It seems that the first 50 people to register will be accepted, so I hope that I was early enough.

What time did you receive the message ? (I am in Saint Barthélemy and I think that the message arrived about 9h30 today, that is 15h30 Paris time. I replied quite quickly).

Best of luck to you, I hope that one of us succeeds !

good luck to you also

In that case, we both replied at exactly the same time - maybe we are competing for the same seats !!

I also was lucky, since you must read the AF letter very carefully to learn that you have to reply quickly - I first thought it was a "draw" (tirage au sort). Also, it's not too clear when we will know if we have been lucky. If I win, I will return to Paris just to be on this flight !

I hope that the plane will have AF colours, but I don't know if this is the case.

Once again, good luck  Smile

The e-mail we received says that we need to reply before oct 11. So we can guess they will announce the winners on the 12th. But as it won't take until the 11th to have 50 respondents, may be we'll know before...

Indeed - I am afraid that the first 50 replies were made almost at once - but maybe lots of people did not read the message so carefully....Maybe the AF message was deliberately not clear ?? Anyway, it is hard to wait till the 12th to know !

As there are only 100 seats available for us, I wonder who the other passengers will be - I guess Air France staff and maybe some VIPs.

Quoting Goldorak (Reply 6):

Thank you DALelite !

Yes, thanks also

may be we are the VIPs .... just joking of course  Big grin The real VIPs will be probably in J & P
Also, you know that the winners will be returning to CDG by the regular AF345 flight. So what about the return A380 YUL-CDG flight ? Is there any Canadian FBlue platinum members who received the same kind of offer but for the YUL-CDG leg ?

12 November 2007--gee, isn't that right at the beginning of beaujolais nouveau wine production season? (Yes, I know that by law, new releases of beaujolais nouveau can't start until the third week in November, but I'm sure Airbus could make an exception and ship a number of cases on this test flight to Montreal.)

By the way, has YUL modified any of its gates to support dual-level jet bridges like they just recently did at SFO to accommodate the A380 on this test flight?

Probably not. You will most likely have to use external stairs.

That's really a shame. How can AF expect platinum members to accept stairs and walking over tarmac? In that case I think that you should refuse to accept the ticket.

You might also just hand it over to me, then I will see what I can do with it.  cheerful

So what about the return A380 YUL-CDG flight ?

Are you sure that there is a return to CDG, not just an airbus ferry flight to Toulouse?

The CDG-YUL leg will be flawn by guests and the YUL-CDG leg by AF staff.

Ia Orana All !

Indeed the Air France staff will be flying on the return leg; Yet only 40 seats are available and it is a contest where we have to answer questions and then a draw amongst the good replies... I only have one more that I do't have an answer for...
What is the highest point at which the A380 maintenance hangar built in CDG culminates ?
39.90 m ? 40,50m ? 41,80m ?

I want to say 41,80 because the only info we have is that the ceiling height is 40m... Any of you guys have info ?

Thanks for all your help,

AF Cabin Crew

I have found the following in an AF news but that doesn't bring anything new for you. Sorry... and good luck to you !
"Le projet du hangar dédié a été lancé sur appel d'offres dès 2005 et confié au cabinet d'architectes Jean Mas. Ce hangar, appelé aussi « baie », d'une emprise au sol de 100 mètres par 200 mètres et dont le toit culminera à 40 mètres, sera le seul à Roissy en mesure d'abriter entièrement un A380. Jusqu'à trois autres baies pourront être construites en fonction de la mise en exploitation des appareils commandés par Air France."

I had also a negative reply....Sorry for both of us !

I just wonder how AF selected the first 50 replies as they must have received lots of replies all almost at the same time ?

I hope someone on the site here was luckier.
