Looks like one of TZ's new (meaning newly-acquired from NW) DC10s had an air return to SAT today while heading out to DFW. Dunno if this is the most recent ship to be added to the TZ roster, but coming from its maint base, it's a possibility, particularly in light of my recollection that another was almost ready for delivery. Maybe she's not quite ready to start flying for her new carrier?

Not sure what happened here, but this was N705TZ and was supposed to head up to DFW this morning. Left check a few days ago and had a few items left to clear before going into service. It must have encountered a few more problems, but I had not heard about any.

By the way, 705 is the 3rd TZ DC10 with 706 following next month.

A few questions come to mind:

What happened to 703 and 704; they didn't skip those numbers did they?

What's the schedule for the whole DC-10 fleet? (if it is known)

What is the current status of each plane?

Which livery can we expect to see on the yet-to-enter-service birds?

Can I have a free ride on one?

I didn't get a 'Harumph' outta that guy!

N703TZ is reserved by ATA but not currently assigned to any aircraft. N704TZ is assigned to a private Cessna 150 in Oklahoma.

Today was the second attempt to get this plane to DFW. On the 6th it tried
and got just south of the DFW area and then turned around and returned to SAT.
The same thing happened today, the 8th. I actually saw 5TZ fly over my subdivision
about 1440. I have a photo of 5TZ after it returned from its first flight, but"add
images" is screwed up and I can't get my photo to ya'll.

I believe that these aircraft will be used for charter operations

If you are in the military I am sure that you would get a "free" ride on one, that;s probably the only way you will get a freebie unless you are an employee of TZ or know someone with connections.

You could try the "sister" site, myaviation.net. Or doesn't that work either? There's also that Site That Must Not Be Named.

703 was to be used on aircraft N237NW, but that aircraft is now going to World as N136WA. We never had 704 reserved.

We will have 4 this year (701, 702, 705, 706). The last 2 of the original 9 purchased/leased (N223NW, N224NW) may be added next spring/summer.

What is the current status of each plane?

701 in-service since June
702 in-service since August
705 in-service this month (few days)
706 in-service about middle of November

Quoting ZuluLima (Reply 2):

701 will stay in the silver mica with blue tail/solid ATA logos on tail/fuselage
702, 705, 706 still in NWA bowling shoe liveries with small ATA fuselage logos. These 3 aircraft may get some type of hybrid scheme, but still undecided or scheduled.

No free ride unless you're in the military, but they are used on commercial charters as well.

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to see the new ones. As for the free ride, I was just joking, but I do work with these planes as a sub-contractor for ATA in DFW, so maybe I've got a .01% chance.

I got several "free rides" on your TriStars, before I retired.

Looks like getting a new flight number did the trick! It didn't like the old one!  Wink

ATA - an honestly different airline.
