Delta adds nonstop service from Tucson to LA

advertisementDelta Air Lines on Tuesday announced new nonstop service to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning Dec. 17.
The additional twice-daily service increases to 13 the number of daily nonstop flights from Tucson to Los Angeles. Delta also currently offers two daily nonstop flights to Atlanta and six daily nonstop flights to Salt Lake City.
Los Angeles is the most popular destination for Tucson travelers, Bonnie Allin, president and CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority, said in a statement welcoming the new flights.
The new flight information: ç
œ Departs Tucson at 7 a.m., arrives in Los Angeles at 7:30 a.m.; ç
œ Departs Tucson at 3:55 p.m., arrives in Los Angeles at 4:25 p.m.; ç
œ Departs Los Angeles at 12:40 p.m., arrives in Tucson at 3:26 p.m.; ç
œ Departs Los Angeles at 8:35 p.m., arrives in Tucson at 11:21 p.m.
Tucson International Airport is served by 12 airlines offering 86 daily departures flying to 28 nonstop destinations.

DL really rebuilding the old Western network. Albeit with ERJs, but it's a start.

The flights are bookable, but their PC Timetable has yet to be updated. When it is, it will be interesting to see how these flights connect with DL's new west coast operation. At least now TUS travelers will be able to have convenient connections to Hawaii on an airline that still has some semblance of coach service.
I picked some random dates in December after the flights start and compared DL, UA, WN, and XE, who all fly non-stop from TUS to the LA area.
Leaving December 17 morning, returning December 24 afternoon (I told you the dates were random)
Comparing all these carriers: Service-wise, they would be rated this way: XE, WN, DL, UA. Comfort-wise: WN, XE, DL, UA. And frequent flyer benefits: XE, WN, DL = UA.

They have satellite and XM the only difference is the Delta livery.

Darn, I am flying LAX>TUS on the 18th, already booked with WN but would have loved to have gotten skymiles for this...oh well.

Almost... Some of the ExpressJet planes doing the Delta flying have XM, but the system isn't always on. Additionally, the food/beverage service is DL catered, not ExpressJet.
