American Vs Russian Airliners.

Now without starting a big political debate here along the lines of Boeing vs Airbus etc but would any smart a.netter here be able to tell me in a ratio of crashes due to amount of frames built due to the fault of a aircraft (not crew fault or weather etc) is greater? American (Boeing etc) or Russian (Tupolev, Illyushin etc).....?

Please leave any comments about which you think is better aside and any intrinisic causes such as "bad maintenance" etc, I'm just interested to know.

Here you can scan for accidents by country and by type of airplane. Virtually all makes and models are listed.

With ANY crash, there are always a multitude of reasons why the accident happened - even during the Soviet Union era. As with any product, it all comes down to maintenance - and some Russian planes are as tough as tanks!!

Other than a design flaw in the Yak-42 and the DC-10, I don't offhand recall any other "plane caused the crash" accidents.

There are loads in the same category as DC10 and Yak42, i.e. 737 rudder reversal, Dash 8 400 Gear locking problems and 747 cargo door locking mechanism probs.
