Quoting BBADXB (Reply 2): Can't see how AI, let alone MS can make the grade to a *A airline.
Both airlines cover markets where *A is lacking, namely India and North/Middle Africa and Arabia. Furthermore, both airlines have placed huge orders for fleet renewals and are working on their service standards.
I myself am happy about it, as Stitch said:

Quoting HECA (Reply 4): May CAI become thé Star Alliance hub of the Middle East and North Africa!
MS and CAI are going on the right track
Quoting Ramik (Reply 6): so all we have to do is wait for CAI-YYZ (Special Request for MSYYZ )
Spot on
Quoting Ramik (Reply 6): I wonder when we will see CAI-HKG ??
This route was on the cards along with IAH back in the late 90's early 2000's , but never materialized , hope joining *A will make making a decision re:HKG easier for MS officials .

Both AI and MS have improved alot over the years. Time to shelve old stereo types !!! Star is still better than Oneworld!!! Its great to see so many cultural diverse airlines in Star!!!
Congrats to Star and MS

Look for the likes of TAM and TACA to be announced sometime in 2008. TAM might even be announced by December. My go on this, watch all the airlines that sign agreements with Lufthansa.
Also look for Ethiopian, Air Malta, Aegean (*A Regional), and Air One. The latter will also probably be the next big purchase by LH - they seem to be waiting for Alitalia to close shop, Air One to take up its routes and then swallow it up!

Maybe we will see the pax on board the MS flights carrying live chickens like I have seen on the underground trains in Cairo.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Quoting Flyyul (Reply 10): Does Egyptair plan on using theri A330-200 to open North America services? It seems like a logical type airplane to make this happen.
First of all, congrats to MS and Star.
About the 332s, on another thread I mentioned 332s to be pushing their limits to do west bound N.American destinations (hot heavy westbound).

Hmmm, not sure about that one. Air One ia already a fully integrated Miles&More member, so any *A FF member can earn miles with them. I don't know what els ewould warrant an integration of Air One, unless as a regional member.

They currently operate :
12 A320
7 A330/200
4 A321
3 A340/200
3 B737/500
3 B738
5 B777/200ER
6 E-170 operating under Egyptair Express Total:43
On order :
5 A332 + 3 options + 3 to be leased
8 B777/300ER ( to be leased )
9 B738
6 E-170 ( may be upgraded to E-190 ) Total on order:34
There were plans to get rid of the A342 and the B735 , but because the Airline is short in A/C , these plans are shelved for now . But one should expect getting rid of the old A/C once the new planes start rolling in .

LOL Honestly I can't blame ya for saying that but the one thing that I can assure you is that if that happens I would gladly shoot down the chicken and the planes
But seriously guys, I have never flown on Egyptair (Always Lufthansa!!!) Except for the last couple of years and you have no idea how in such a short time Egyptair transformed into a whole new airline !! may we hope the Best for MS and Star Alliance ..

Indeed Ramik , the on-time performance of the Airline is now one of the best , check this website out : Airlines on-time performance
Not only that , customer service has greatly improved , in February they had a new website up and running with online booking engine , newer planes are added to the fleet bringing the average fleet age down while dramatically increasing the fleet size , newer routes were opened in 2007 including KUL,CAN and LIS .
And don't forget , they have one of the best on board meals
25 Beaucaire: Agree that they have improved.. - but they should jump over their shadows ans start serving alcoholic beverages for those passengers that want a can
26 ORD Boy 2: Either way Egypt Air and Air India are good pickups for Star, now its just Latin America, Russia and Australia (I know ANZ is there) are the only hole
