Well so much for what Leahy had to say:

Have you read anything more than the title?

"although it wouldn't rule out purchases of the big Airbus plane in the future."

Just like BA had no plans 2 years ago.

I can see CA order the A380 in the future.

Like Danny says, BA had no plans 2years ago and now they has ordered the A380.

I think that CA will order the A380.

Yeah and they're competeing with the 748I BTW Leahy predicted that Air China would buy the A380 next year that doesn't look very certain now, does it?

Not sure if he said Air China specifically...

"The next one who is going to make a decision is probably Air India [AIN.UL]. We've been in discussions with them about the airplane. We have been in discussions with Japanese carriers, we have been in discussions with Chinese carriers," Airbus sales chief John Leahy told reporters."

from http://www.reuters.com/article/tnBas...ndustries-SP/idUSSIN28590220071017

"The aircraft manufacturer is in discussions with Air India, Japan's All Nippon Airways and Cathay Pacific, Leahy said."

from http://www.cnbc.com/id/21302916/for/cnbc

Not sure where a direct comment about Air China came from, Cathay Pacific is a Chinese carrier.

Air China in that article said it has not ruled out the A380, and confirmed it had no plans to order any at the moment, it does not say much at all.

Airbus expects to receive new orders for its A380 superjumbo by the middle of next year from Asian airlines such as Air India and Air China, the planemaker's chief salesman said on Wednesday.

Seems either Leahy actually did mention Air China specifically but was not directly quoted, or the reporters are putting the fact that Airbus has been in talks with Air China specifically together with Leahy's comment about an incremental order from China.

On a related note, I see Airbus is denying there will be a further delay in deliveries. "There are no delays; that is a misunderstanding," Leahy told reporters. "We have said it is a challenge, of course, but we are on track." Sounds remarkably familiar.

Also, Airbus plans to "revise" the design of the A380F in 2009. Good for them - they'll be able to incorporate tweaks and such.

I saw that in line before, but not a direct quote mentioning Air China from JL. Reuters in my view tends to be less than accurate when reporting things about Airbus, particularity if they have been translated from German or Frnech.

That was covered in Possible A380 Delivery Delays In 2008 (by BoeingBus Oct 14 2007 in Civil Aviation) with 23 aircraft already assembled, next year should not be a problem to deliver 13 or more. But ramping production up again will take good management to meet all delivers for 2009 and beyond.

IMHO, with the SQ A380 going into service soon, the airlines that 'may' order the A380 will pay close attention to SQ's results.

If SQ is satisfied and happy, other airlines are sure to follow.
